** Introducing David McBeth

We have a new volunteer, David McBeth, who has just joined this List.

This young man is very interested in the technical side of things, and is now a trainee in the Webmaster department, where Patric and Karen will make sure he learns what he needs to know.

He is currently working his way through the Staff Handbook and touring the nooks and crannies of this domain.

Welcome David, and we all hope to be hearing from you on the list as issues arise where you have some experience.

** New Lichtenberg Story

Jacqueline has a story titled "Vampire's Friend" that has been accepted for an anthology due to come out in October or November. It's a humorous anthology, in quality paperback from Speculations Press.

"Vampire's Friend" is the sequel to "True Death". Watch for it, and other stories in an anthology entitled HEAVEN AND HELL released by Speculation Press and slated for the Fall of 2001. "True Death" is a sequel to "Vampire's Fast" in GALAXY MAGAZINE, #9, Vol II Issue #3, 1995, posted at http://www.simegen.com/writers/Lichtenberg.

CONTACT: Kathy Early, Marketing Director, NovelBooks, Inc.

NovelBooks, Inc., announces the scheduled Grand Opening of Phase One of its Website at www.novelbooksinc.com, for August 1, 2001. The site is the home of all the activities of the publisher including FREE downloads of short stories by NBI authors, a Short Story Contest, opportunities to win FREE books, pre ordering of NBI¹s first eight releases, publication information, author submission guidelines, and a sample contract.

FREE Downloads

"We are very excited about reaching this landmark in our business." Said Penny Hussey, NBI's President, and CEO. "The site has been under development for some time and Phase One is now fully operational. We are especially proud to offer readers samples of our authors¹ work via the short stories that they have written. The short stories are available as a FREE download from the site."

"Readers can also sample excerpts from the wonderful books that will be available in October, and check out interviews and recent reviews," Hussey continued. "A little preview, if you will, to whet the appetite and introduce the world to the very talented writers from NBI.

Short Story Contest

In addition, NovelBooks, Inc., is holding a Short Story Contest for all writers. The Grand Prize is $100.00 and publication! Details of the contest and entry information are available from the site at www.novelbooksinc.com. Hurry though; the entry deadline is October 1, 2001. "We want all writers to enter, professional and hobbyist alike. Short Stories are fun to write and to read. They provide the author an excellent opportunity for exposure and to gain experience."

NovelBooks, Inc., will be opening its retail sales operation later this fall. NBI will publish fiction books in both electronic and POD formats -- simultaneously. NBI titles include all genres except Horror, Young Adult, and Erotica. The current production schedule calls for four new releases per month.

NBI¹s publication schedule is currently full through August of 2002, but NBI remains open for new submissions from published as well as unpublished authors. Visit the NBI website at www.novelbooksinc.com to view our author Guidelines and a sample author Contract.

** New Jean Lorrah Book

Jean Lorrah has a non-S~G novel, BLOOD WILL TELL, coming out from Awe-Struck E-books in October.

** Bygone Days

Bygone Days, Sime~Gen's new historical fiction e-magazine, is now open for submissions.

Of late the niche for historical fiction seems to have been shrinking, but don't be fooled -- that's just loose sediment. It's been a while since anyone ventured down to the cellar. And there are some great old bottles of wine lurking on that ledge.

Sime~Gen is pleased to announce Bygone Days, a new online magazine of historical fiction. We are currently seeking short story submissions in all historical sub-genres. Do drop in and peruse our guidelines:

Bygone Days

Take us to another time. Bring along your graven bowl, goblet, or fluted glass, and drink deep. The dry spell's over.

** New Opening

We now have an opening for a Chat Host(ess) to handle the Celebrity Chats that are part of the Spotlights section.

To see what's involved go to http://www.simegen.com/writers/spotlights/.

The Host(ess) would need a fair amount of skill with IRC moderating, plus a very good knack for tact, and above all a sense of humor when things go wrong.

The person would get to meet all kinds of writers, in all genres, and at all levels of fame (and I do mean all).

The host(ess) would be responsible for contacting and inviting celebrities to chat, for creating and maintaining a chat schedule, and for advertising that chat schedule through the spotlights-L newsletter and our other newsletters and pages.

There's a fair amount of record keeping involved, but the host(ess) can set their own schedule -- one chat a month, one a week, or however it may be possible to keep on top of it.

It is possible this opening may be filled by two or more people who want to team up to cover the responsibilities.

To apply, email simegen@simegen.com with your qualification, what you have yet to learn, and your ideas for how this section could best be run.
