******WRITERS WORKSHOP- SLUSH PILE READING

Anne Phyllis Pinzow, widely experienced publishing professional, gives us a glimpse of what a slush pile reader does, how and why.

Playing with the Big Boys -- Slush Pile Reading for Publishers' Row

Learn what happens to your manuscripts when you send them in. Learn why you get rejections. Find out how to make a little extra money as a slush pile reader -- a very little extra. You may also want to read some of Anne's other Workshop entries -- all of them instructive about various parts of the life of someone making a living from stringing words together.

Even readers will be fascinated by this glimpse of where their favorite books come from.

Immaculate by Kate Hill

Flashbacks that hint of an evil beyond belief have driven Mara to study supernatural legends. Only when she meets Adam Lindsay, an incredibly sexy vampire battling demons of his own, does she realize that her worst fears are real. The joining of human and vampire conjures sweet love and breathtaking passion. Unfortunately their carnal pleasures might just prove deadly to one of them. From www.ellorascave.com .

******NEW IN SIMECENTER

This month's story comes to us from Kim Richards, yet another of the wonderful BroadUniverse folk.

Her story is 'Scars' (recounting a little-known bit of one family's history). When you love it, visit the author's webpage to learn about her recent and imminent publications.

In the Art department, we have an evocative work by Michael Cox, called "Songbird" (wistfully waiting in the night).

Michael has shared his beautiful artworks with SimeCenter from its very beginning. It's regrettable that we only have visual artworks here, because he is also a composer and has six CDs out (available on his website, along with more conventional artworks).

Our featured "recipient" this month is actually 32 different charitable organizations, all dedicating their efforts to the Tsunami Disaster Relief. This combined page was assembled by e-Bay. Choose one or more. (Be sure to tell them you were 'referred' by SimeCenter.)

SimeCenter joins the Southern Asia recovery effort. SimeCenter is the charitable organization within the World of Sime~Gen, currently seeking funds to support the recovery effort in Southern Asia, via donations to the Red Cross.

******UPDATE TO THE SIME~GEN RPG "BORDERLANDS"

Part 11 of the Borderlands (current) role-playing scenario, "Stalking the Wild Gen", has been published at the usual location . In this part, we continue the Gegg and D'Zoll story arc from part 10, "Tracking the Wild Gen," along with a number of reappearances by people's favorite characters from earlier scenario parts.

This is a relatively short part, only 11 episodes, as it is transitionalbetween part 10 and the forthcoming part 12, "Taming the Wild Gen." Let's see some comments on it!

******KEYBOOKS

Keybooks is the World Crafters Guild's off-campus bookstore. Yes, we're an Amazon affiliate, but not one of those automated storefronts into which amazon's software shoves their most popular titles. See keybooks or Worldcrafters Guild .

Each title on our virtual bookshelves and each gift or office item is hand chosen by a professional writer specifically for writers. Writers are generally eclectic readers, too -- so this store is perfect for the reader who searches for something different or something writers are reading for inspiration. Many titles have mini-writing lessons beside them crafted by one of our professional writers in residence.

This is the perfect place to find a gift for the writer in your life -- time-savers to make writing time, inspiration sources for story ideas, and practical help in how to get published. Click the links across the top of the page to find all our separate genres.
