****** HELP WANTED -- SIMECENTER

SimeCenter needs Volunteers

SimeCenter is looking for "a few good men" (or women) to help out in the "Read a Good Story, Do a Good Deed" department (a/k/a SimeCenter).

Right now, we are seeking one or more volunteers to help with editing, proofreading, link checking, etc.

Eventually, we need a dedicated gatemaster to take over this department.

The job is a bit time-consuming, but it isn't hard. We have a good stash of stories and artwork to post, and templates for all the page formats.

If any of these tasks appeal to you, or you would like to know more...

I'd like to hear from you

Kaires Tevesu SimeCenter Gatemaster or you may write to Simegen@simegen.com for more details.

****** SIMECENTER NEWS

I've kept you waiting since May. Here is the long awaited:

Savage Empire (by Jean Lorrah)
Chapter 5: The Quarry Sighted

The accompanying artwork is:

The Edge of Time (by Michael Cox) which comes with a lovely poem (by Linda S. Burger)

These wondrous works were donated in support of the American Cancer Society and their "Relay for Life" (a celebration of survivors!).

This is especially relevant just now, because nearly 4,000 American Cancer Society "Celebration Ambassadors" gathered in Washington, DC, the week of 9/14/06 for "Celebration on the Hill 2006," to foster awareness of the program. Learn all about it at: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PAR/Content/PAR_1_6_Celebration_on_the_Hill.asp .

When you donate to this worthy organization, be sure to tell them you were referred by SimeCenter.

See it at all at http://www.simegen.com/simecenter/ .

****** COMPANION IN ZEOR

Just posted is a very interesting article to A COMPANION IN ZEOR.

Sime~Gen Demographics: A letter exchange between Greer Watson and Margaret Carter. Includes input from Jacqueline.

Jacqueline has said: "....a fascinating piece of thinking..."

We hope this prompts some list discussion. Thank you, Greer, for also supplying the finished webpages.

PART NINE
THE SANDS OF TIME

Companion in Zeor wishes to thank Ronnie Bob Whitaker for providing several different scan sizes of Doreen's map that I could choose from.

If you are interested in Doreen's thoughts, as discussed during the editorial process, you might also want to investigate:

a link to this is also provided at the conclusion of the story segment.

====================

Please view our Awards From MediaWest Con 25 that belong in CZ 21 .

I finally got around to posting THEM, too. Thank you, Kaires, for providing the images.

The award images are also part of the first page of the respective stories of A COMPANION'S DUTY and A MATTER OF NECESSITY.

*******JACQUELINE'S HEALTH REPORT (as of 9/18/06)

GREAT NEWS! The broken bone is healing up nicely (I think the doctor was a little surprised) and the tissues that still swell and hurt are ready to be "worked out" to spur healing. He gave me a sheet full of exercises for my right foot! (whee!)

The break in the bone was the fibula of my left ankle and the break is at the bottom of the bulge on the outside of the ankle that you usually point to and call your ankle-bone. The rest was just soft tissue damage that's healing nicely. And I have an appointment to see if I can get out of the boot-cast thing I'm wearing on my left foot in another 4 weeks. That'll be a 9 week healing, instead of the 10 predicted.

So I'm out of the wheelchair -- which was a boon when it arrived but has now become more bother than it's worth. I'm still walking with the cane - but I'm "walking" which is the operative word. I expect I won't use the cane much more since I'm now "level."

******BORDERLANDS UPDATE

Part 19 of the Borderlands scenario, "A Walk in the Woods," is now online at http://www.simegen.com/sgfandom/fans/bev/boom/index.html#part.19 .

Closely following on Part 18, Part 19 reports on the further adventures of Hajene Katsura and Nick Reckage as they escape Nick's old enemies and circuitously make their way back to civilization, acquiring a new friend or two on the way.

In sidebars, we see some old friends, including Senator Pollovic, the Sime reporter Triangusul, Colonel Pistachio, and World Controller Jaklin ambrov Imil. By special request, Gitl, the cook at the Hannard's Ford Sime Center, gets her own episode.

Read and enjoy. You know the rules: send comments if you want more!

******** WorldCon Party Report ********

The formal report about this year's WorldCon--and about the very special party--have not been completed...some important addenda are not yet available.

The most important item to report is that the party this year had a special theme: a reunion for the Star Trek Welcommittee.

We specifically scheduled a time at the start of the gathering to remember Shirley Maiewski, who ran the Welcommittee for many years...and made many fast friends. (Learn more about Shirley: http://www.simegen.com/rimonslibrary/cz/cz20/Shirley.html ).

I especially want to thank the people who donated to the 'cause,' and made the party--and the magnificent party suite where it was held--possible:
    Joel Davis
    Mary Manchester
    Anna Mary Hall
    Jonathan vos Post
    Joe & Wendie Zaerfoss
    D. C. Fontana
    Karen MacLeod
Our party partners also contributed substantially:
     EPIC
     BroadUniverse

And I must thank the people who helped run the party, most especially:
Evelyn 'Cloud' Walton - who did most of the preliminary shopping, and schlepped stuff in and out of my car, the hotel, our room...
Cherri Munoz - who spent HOURS cutting and serving food for the party (fruit, veggies, chips, crackers, etc.), and also donated many wondrous food items, mostly from her new home in Mexico.

When the reports exist, they will be available from the fairly-new 'Cons' directory in the Sime~Gen History area .
...The WesterCon report is already there, with a good blackmail picture of the JLs.

If you have questions, comments, etc., please contact Kaires Tevesu.
