*****ROMANCE UNWRAPPED

Romance Unwrapped's Charity Anthology has a story for everyone ranging from sensual to hot in rating. We've got vampires, historicals, fantasy and contemporaries and last but not least, the obligatory ghost story. Because it wouldn't be Christmas without a romantic ghost story, would it? I hope you all enjoy reading them as much as we have. I can't thank all those generous-hearted authors enough for helping us make this a reality. Did I mention how proud of them I am?

Cuddle up with Romance Unwrapped this holiday season, an anthology of winter romances from Linden Bay. All publisher and author proceeds will be donated to Heifer International. We've scheduled the release date for Thanksgiving to tie in to the holiday season and really hope that readers out there will be as generous as our authors and come by the site to support the project. We'd love to be writing a big cheque for Heiffer International and provide deserving families with a real means of supporting themselves.

Heifer works to end hunger and poverty, by providing appropriate livestock and training to communities worldwide. Their cornerstone of "passing on the gift," assures that participants become donors by giving offspring to other families in need. Families continually give to others ensuring self-sufficiency, one family at a time.

******SIMECENTER NEWS - October 2005

This month, we continue to ask your help for the victims of the Gulf Coast hurricane devastation. In return, SimeCenter offers three new opportunities to 'Read a Good Story' or 'Get a Good Eyefull'...and 'Do a Good Deed'.

---

This month, all of the contributing authors and artists have requested that their works be used to solicit donations to Red Cross.

(When you donate, be sure to tell them you were 'referred' by SimeCenter!)

---

In the art department...

Michael Cox sent one of his latest works:
- Orca Rainbow
...elegantly merging two of his favorite symbols.

G.B.Chew sent us several images. This time we present:
- Staindipity - Balancing Chaos
...excellent examples the vast range of his talents. Enjoy.

---

And stories...

Stephanie Bedwell-Grime sent a vampire story, "In the Eye of the Beholder," in honor of the Halloween season.

Alma Alexander contributes "Water" ...written especially for SimeCenter, and for the cause we are currently supporting.

Both of these generous people replied to the SWFA appeal last month. Huzzah!

Finally, Jean Lorrah is allowing us to serialize her novel "Savage Empire" on SimeCenter. The first segment appears this month. (I finally read this book last Summer--so I could use it as a doorprize at our WorldCon party--and it's great!)

---

I hope you enjoyed the new look that 'premiered' on SimeCenter last month.

Now that the reprogramming is done, we can post up to three stories and artworks at one time--up to three recipients, too!--and still use the standard, global format.

Please be generous in supporting our worthy recipients. Please enjoy the stories and artworks. (And please tell me if you find any problems with the site, or wish to suggest improvements.)

In Service to Unity, Kaires

*RE-LAUNCH OF "SPOKES" AS AN E-ZINE

Welcome to the re-launch of SPOKES :
Spokes was a hard copy poetry magazine (for over twenty years,) which also did images - and has a new and brilliant lease of life now as an e-zine! It publishes poetry, short fiction and images, often matched together. .In its first new issue -the re launch!!! Spokes features: work by US based Michael Arnzen, prizewinning author of '1000 jolts' short horror fictions and some equally short horror poetry and pictures. Michael has been a friend to Spokes since before its re launch and is particularly welcome now - It also features the artwork of horror artist Deena Warner previously showcased in both DIAGESIS special issue of horror, and FEMSPEC special horror issue, plus the last hard copy SPOKES, all edited by Gina Wisker with support from Michelle Bernard.

Since Spokes was taken over about twelve years ago by Alistair and Gina Wisker, and following Alistair's too early death, we are also featuring a retrospective of Alistair's poetry and images. Alistair was a prize winning poet, and appeared in numerous publications including Stand, Ambit, Rialto, etc His selected poems 'Home from abroad ' appeared (reviewed in Ambit 2005) in early 2005. Alistair was also a painter (exhibited at 'white space' gallery in Islingon, London, for instance and in many private collections) a couple of things by Gina are also in this edition.

East Anglia-based Les Richards has let us publish two of his stories with an image! These fantastic works should cause some interest. We have some other talented work in here by ??- but you will need to read the magazine to find out all about us!

In the next issue we have Teresia Teiawa, a Fijian, now New Zealand poet, a series of art and poetry in an intertwined creative relationship between Gina and Deena (who have not yet met!) Creative writing by writers from the UK -- both Ruskin College, Oxford and Anglia Ruskin University - and a host of others. Our next edition is April 2006 -- do contribute! and tell us what you think of the publication !!

****** WANT A NEW MARY LOU MENDUM S~G STORY? CONTRIBUTE TO OUR 'BRIBERY FUND.'

A first in Sime~Gen Fandom (maybe all fandom!):

The Sime~Gen discussion list has spawned an official plan to bribe Mary Lou Mendum to write more stories (about Eskalie & Tallin and/or Den & Rital).

We have a 'bookie': annpiccolo
We know our bribee is amenable:
[Mary Lou, after due consideration of growling
stomach, bails on the idea of working on the
lap quilt and boots up the word processor]
We have the appropriate 'coinage':
      Small denomination gift certificates from:
      http://daviswiki.org/The_Candy_House_of_Davis

It started with a question: which story had a channel apologizing to his Companion after an argument by offering chocolate? Then began an erudite discussion about endangering one's chocolate disjunction. We quickly realized chocoholics can't disjunct. All their lives, they must occasionally have a chocolate fix...or die!

Want to join in on the bribe?
...and learn more about chocolate disjunction?

The easiest way is to join the [simegen-l] If that's too hard, send your contributions by check (made out to The Candy House of Davis) to: Ann Partridge, 233 Rock Road #108, Glen Rock, NJ 07452.

---

BTW, Mary Lou offered a counter-bribe: contributors will have a chance to read the new stories as they are completed...before they appear in A Companion in Zeor!

---

Send those checks by November 7th...One story is already well started! (Tell annpiccolo @ aol.com when you send it, so she knows how many to expect.) Please omit the spaces and write out the e-dress fully so it will work.

How much? Mary Lou's secret weakness is (are?) truffles. Each one costs $1...Every little bit helps.

******THE WRITERS TOOLBOX

Rochelle "Shelly" Campbell, a professional non-fiction writer who has completed the Essence of Story Course, has compiled a handy glossary of terms we use in the various lessons, workshop posts, and articles spread throughout this domain.

Jean Lorrah and Jacqueline Lichtenberg have ammended and expanded Shelly's list, and it is now posted in the Writer's Workshop, and cross indexed there. We expect new students will find this a valuable resource.

It can be accessed at http://www.simegen.com/school/workshop/ -- on the left select Choose A Teacher, then click Jean Lorrah, Jacqueline Lichtenberg, or Other and look for the new sticker.
