** DREAMSPY
Interesting news from Jacqueline: The DREAMSPY website has been updated with the new publishing information; the new cover for the May 03 Trade Paperback edition, and a great new accolade!

Lichtenberg Influences Music Industry

Working to update the http://www.simegen.com/writers/luren/dreamspy/ website for DREAMSPY (May 04 Trade Paperback), the companion novel to THOSE OF MY BLOOD (Oct. 03) with the new DREAMSPY Cover, Jacqueline found a band and a music publisher using the name DreamSpy -- so she e-mailed asking if these people had read DREAMSPY and if that was a factor in choosing their name and got a thrilling reply. Read this new accolade and see the new cover at http://www.simegen.com/writers/luren/dreamspy/ . Order the much cheaper trade paperback of THOSE OF MY BLOOD now on Amazon . DREAMSPY will appear in a few weeks and you can meet the character who inspired a real musician.

You can read free chapters of both THOSE OF MY BLOOD and DREAMSPY at http://www.simegen.com/writers/luren/ .

** NEW STAFFER
We have a new staffer to welcome with a rousing cheer!

She is Chris Jacobs, who has bravely (insanely?) volunteered to become part of the Domain Operations Department (that's been Jacqueline all this long while).

She will be interfacing between the Webmaster and Gatemasters, creating an easy way for the new Publicity Dept head (Anita York) to manage our web rings.

Domain Operations is in charge of coordinating among our departments, making decisions about deploying our resources, hardware, bandwidth, and personnel, to maximum advantage of the Corporation in which we all own stock.

These resources include hardware that we own (we're running the domain on a co-located server; we own the hardware, but we've never seen it. It resides at an ISP that maintains the hardware for a fee), bandwidth we buy for a fee, and our volunteer staffers, plus the various services we buy for various fees (e-cards etc.)

In addition Domain Ops manages our various sources of income (and thus interfaces with the Corp Treasurer and CEO, Jean Lorrah) -- amazon affiliate account, Dell Computer affiliate account, a couple of affiliate accounts Lois Wickstrom (Jean Lorrah's co-author on the Nessie books and other projects) has established, and now Lois's most recent creation http://www.cafepress.com/simegen/ account that sells items with our logo on it. We also host other domains on our hardware, reselling the bandwidth we buy wholesale but don't use.

To manage the hardware, Domain Ops interfaces with the Sysadmin (Patric). To manage our software (Redhat Linux, scripts, installed programs, Apache web server, etc.) and the hard disk space we own, Domain Ops interfaces with Sysadmin (Patric). Mostly because Patric is so good at this, Ops has very little to think about there after the main policy decisions are made. But Domain Ops has to know when we're running short of hardware, need a software upgrade that costs time, money or downtime, or have exceeded our bandwidth allotments (which has happened).

Domain Ops reports directly to the President of the Corporation (Jacqueline). The President makes these policy decisions in conjunction with the Chairman of the Board of Directors (that's Jean who is also CEO, Treasurer and Vice President).

To manage the actual web pages we are showing online, Domain Ops interfaces with the Webmaster Dept. Since that's Patric too - (well, Patric can hold a top level committee meeting all by himself) - the globalization project has taken a bit of time, but it is beginning to save time too!

Domain Ops also is supposed to run through the pages and final check to be sure everything planned has in fact been done. That and a series of similar tasks that fall to the middle and upper management of any operation have simply not been done lately because I have had my attention on the next expansion effort for this Domain.

So Jacqueline is very hopeful that Chris, whose background includes project management (i.e. chasing around after dropped balls, preferably preventing the dropping in the first place), a familiarity with online fandom (ST and Buffy!!! Whoopee! Even Sime~Gen too!), and a solid acquaintance with the nitty-gritty of domain building (html, servers, databases), will be able to take over a good many of the tasks Jacqueline has not been able to cover adequately.
