** BOOK AND OTHER PUBLICATION NEWS
1. Jacqueline Lichtenberg's Sime~Gen novels, including new previously unpublished novels are being printed by Meisha Merlin Publishers in Trade Paperback & Hardcover. That's a twelve-novel contract in six volumes and includes work by Jean Lorrah. Volumes are scheduled to start coming out July 2003.

2. MOLT BROTHER and CITY OF A MILLION LEGENDS are being reprinted by www.wildsidepress.com in Trade Paperback, maybe Hardcover, and e-book.

3. A successful playwright is doing original plays based on MOLT BROTHER and CITY.

4. A very new online company is planning to record almost all of Jacqueline's short stories using professional actors with music and FX for MP3 distribution on the web, and maybe via CDs sold on Amazon etc. (http://www.wsapl.com )

5. The same online recording company will probably be doing a recording of a story based on one of the plays based on Jacqueline's novels, a Sime~Gen short story, and two stories based on the following: THOSE OF MY BLOOD and DREAMSPY (two of Jacqueline's vampire novels), which are now under contract to www.benbellabooks.com for reprint the end of 2003 or beginning of 2004.

6. Jacqueline has an article on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER in an anthology of such articles by SF/F writers coming out from BenBella Books late next year.

7. Jean Lorrah (author of several best selling Star Trek novels from Pocket) has a reprint deal for her long series titled "Savage Empire". Another famous Star Trek fan, Winston Howlett (editor of the famous 'zine CAPTAIN UHURA, among other things) is her co-author. He will also be doing a new book in the "Savage Empire" series. That's in addition to the first paper printing of Jean's award winning e-book, BLOOD WILL TELL.

** JEAN LORRAH ARTICLE
An article by Jean Lorrah about collaboration has been added to the Sime~Gen news section . Link from the word "collaboration" on that page.

** NOTICE FROM TOR
My name is Anna Genoese and I am an acquiring editor at Tor Books. Tor is part of Tom Doherty Associates (which also publishes Forge Books), and recently we've decided to expand into publishing more romance.

I'm looking for unique and original dark fantasy/sf, erotic fantasy/sf, paranormal/sf/speculative romance/"chick lit". Romantic paranormal mystery/suspense is fine (i.e., J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts, Linda Howard), but I'm not looking for straight romantic mystery/suspense. Romantic historical fantasy (i.e., Juliet Marillier, Jacqueline Carey, Delia Sherman) is acceptable, but no straight romantic historicals. The romance cannot be an afterthought -- but neither can the plot! The romance should comprise 50% or less of the main story. I am open to non-traditional romances (multi-racial/ethnic, multi-spiritual, homosexual, etc.) as well as traditional ones.

Submissions should be sent via email or post: 1-2 page synopsis, the first 3 chapters or 60 pages of your work. No simultaneous submissions, no query letters. Only one piece of work per e-mail or envelope. No phone pitches, but if anyone needs to double-check whether I received something, or whether I am interested in a particular genre, they may call.)

** SWORD & SORCERESS 21 ANTHOLOGY SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
New Stories should be the type generally referred to as "sword and sorcery" and must have a strong female protagonist. See SWORD & SORCERESS 1-19 for examples. We do not want stories set in modern times, or stories with explicit sex, gratuitous violence, or profanity.

Deadline: November 30, 2002.

Length: up to 9,000 words.

Submission method: save document as .rtf file (rich text format or interchange format, depending on your computer) and e-mail as attachment to mzbworks@att.net.

Rights purchased: first rights.

Payment: 2-6 cents per word, plus pro rata share of royalties and foreign sales.

** HARLEQUIN/SILHOUETTE FANTASY PROJECT
HQN/SIL is in the process of developing a new imprint (name to come) of fantasy titles. We hope to launch in early 2004, with one a month in a trade size format -- similar to our current Red Dress Ink. We don't have guidelines yet -- hopefully by the end of the month when we've firmed up our name--but it will be female-focused fantasy with a romantic subplot (though not necessarily a "happily-ever-after") and it will be about 100,000-150,000 words. For the first year, we hope to concentrate on alternate/magical historical novels and otherland fantasies, and then we'll consider broadening our needs.

* These books will deliver compelling and rich plots with unique characters and worlds, these stories will be led by strong yet sympathetic women who may be gifted with supernatural or fantastical powers.

* These books will also strive to deliver compelling and satisfying romantic subplots that will not overshadow the main story.

* The reader will visit and escape into alternate worlds/realities where traditional rules and orders do not apply.

If you -- or anyone you know -- has something you feel appropriate, please feel free to send it to my attention at the New York office.

The featured recipient this month is again the Arrowhead Drop-In Center. Arrowhead helps adults with serious and persistent mental illness. It is a member-driven, staff-managed and -supported, peer support drop-in center using a psychosocial approach.

I hope you will take the time to visit their page, and donate to this worthy organization, in return for enjoying the excellent stories and artwork our contributors have donated.

Don't forget to tell them that you were 'referred' by SimeCenter.

In the Art department, we have "Kristel Lake" (from the tideless time of dreams) by Geoffrey B. Chew.

This month's story is "Neglect Not" by Megan Powell. (It is our response to tragedy that makes us human.)

** WELCOME NEW VOLUNTEER NANCY JACKSON
Nancy Jackson is a published author and poet with works featured in such areas as "Twilight Times", "Literati", "Heated Rush", various anthologies, and six books in an upcoming series due next Spring. She is addicted to the written word. Sime~Gen was introduced to her by Kit Tunstall, editor of Dog-Eared Webzine where she is a book reviewer there as well. She was delighted to find she had purchased books from there and found it to be a wonderful magazine. Nancy doesn't feel you can read or write enough, so to be part of another great team is an honor and privilege she takes with seriousness, commitment, and even a little creative fun.
