A Mirror for Observers by Edgar Pangborn 1954, and since then various publishers. There's a link on the sf/f page at Keybooks Bookstore where you can find used copies. Civil Campaign, A Vorkosigan Adventure, by Lois McMaster Bujold, Baen pb Aug. 2000 If you've managed to miss theVorkosegan Novels, you've got a real treat in store.Miles Vorkosegan is an aristocrat from a world where the Military is the only real career for an aristocratic man. But with his defective body, he has no hope. But anyhow, he succeeds beyond everyone's wildest dreams. Finally, he grows up into his 30's, miraculously surviving -- and meets the One Woman he can't live without. Modeling his courtship on his most successful military campaigns, a 'Civil Campaign' - he fails abysmally. I have never read anything so hysterically FUNNY as the dinner party at the middle of this novel. But it's only funny because it is so very realistic. Bujold has a deep understanding of human nature, easy facility with sf/f world-building, and the military wiles of a Gordon R. Dickson. And here she's written an sf-romance that should be used as a model of excellence by which to judge every other sf-romance.

Blind
Vision is a 'can't put it down read' - and please don't judge it by
the cover art.
Yes, this book and its publisher advertise on simegen.com - I'd probably never have noticed them if they didn't. And that's a conflict of interests. But this is just one terrific novel! Read it! I have also sold Speculation Press a Vampire short story for their November anthology. The two prequels are available here for free reading.
Secret of the Wolf is a sequel to Touch of the Wolf and Once a Wolf - you can find my reviews of those by putting "Susan Krinard" into our domain search engine. Don't miss this one.
Time Future pits the strength and ingenuity of a woman against the forces of a galactic civilization. I loved the moment when her ex-husband turns up.
Stronghold Rising is a very strong entry into this long series. For more on the rest of these books, put "Lisanne Norman" into the simegen.com domain search engine. All these titles are highly recommended. |
