We now use Mailman software to manage our lists, widely regarded as the best behaved list software a server can offer.  Your email address will not be auto-harvested from our lists, and you will not be deluged with spam.  Some of our lists and newsletters are advertising supported, but all the ads are about books, reading, writing, and they are all text ads, no popups.  

You manage your list subscription yourself from an intuitively obvious web page.  Every month the list software will send you a reminder of your current management password for that list, and you may change the password right on the web interface.
