Session Start: Sun Jan 02 14:06:16 2011 EST

* Karen changes topic to 'Annual Sime~Gen business meeting -- chat in #sgtalk -- go there, too'
<Karen> Inserted as requested ---> <jl> Also in the permanent record I want to put the following item. I've joined a group C. J. Cherryh invited me into of mass market writers who have been retrieving their rights and issuing their OWN e-book editions. I did that for DUSHAU TRILOGY and I did an omnibus version of HERO and BORDER DISPUTE -- all only on Amazon and only in Kindle format (which now can be read by almost any e-book reader)
<jl> This is a really impressive group of writers and they are selling their own books by the hundreds (I haven't gotten there yet). They have an Amazon store. http://backlistebooks.com should be right. check it.
<MTZ> ah, JL, Kindle format means only Kindle, iPad, smartphones. There are lots of other readers, the new ones mostly some flavor of e-pub.
<jl> Amazon is making "apps" available for almost every electronic screen -- one at a time, but that's the strategy.
<MTZ> yep, backlist books is a great idea!
<jl> Well over 40 writers so far, and all helping each other figure out how to pub and promo their own books
<Karen> I have been asked by Jacqueline to chair the Annual Sime~Gen Business meeting on January 2, 2011. She is a bit under the weather, and Jean will be late.... The meeting is now open.
<jl> Move to waive the reading of the minutes of the previous annual meeting. * Karen seconds, 'cause she can't find those minutes easily.
<Karen> Vote, please, on the waiver of minutes for the 2010 -- last year's meeting.
<MTZ> aye
<Seanara> Aye
<jl> aye
<Karen> So moved. We will waive reading last year's minutes.
<jl> Absent the other department heads who usually give us a summary of the previous year, I move we get to the President's Report.
<Karen> Seconded. Vote for all in favor...
<Seanara> Aye
<MTZ> aye
<jl> aye
<Karen> So passed. We will begin with the President's report.

Sime~Gen President's Report
- by Jacqueline Lichtenberg

The search committee to find a less expensive hosting service has chosen to move simegen.com and all hosted and related domains to go-daddy provided the sysadmin can find no reason the go-daddy deal would not suit us. So the task of reducing ongoing overhead expenses will continue into 2011 as we change hosting services.

Meanwhile, the goal of increasing revenues has come much closer. In 2010, we signed contracts, without use of an Agent intermediary, with Wildside Press for all the Sime~Gen titles copyrighted by Sime~Gen Inc. to be reprinted by Borgo Press, along with the new Sime~Gen material originally created for Meisha Merlin Publishing. These signed contracts have been scanned and filed with both Jean Lorrah and Jacqueline Lichtenberg, and on the corporate server. So we've made a HUGE leap forward in progress here after losing previous publishers to the economy. Wildside wants to list these novels as a series with numbers, and chose the following list:

THE SIME~GEN SERIES from The Borgo Press
House of Zeor, by Jacqueline Lichtenberg (#1)
Unto Zeor, Forever, by Jacqueline Lichtenberg (#2)
First Channel, by Jean Lorrah and Jacqueline Lichtenberg (#3)
Mahogany Trinrose, by Jacqueline Lichtenberg (#4)
Channel's Destiny, by Jean Lorrah and Jacqueline Lichtenberg (#5)
  RenSime, by Jacqueline Lichtenberg (#6)
Ambrov Keon, by Jean Lorrah (#7)
Zelerod's Doom, by Jacqueline Lichtenberg and Jean Lorrah (#8)
Personal Recognizance, by Jacqueline Lichtenberg (#9)
The Story Untold and Other Stories, by Jean Lorrah (#10)
To Kiss or to Kill, by Jean Lorrah (#11)
The Farris Channel, by Jacqueline Lichtenberg (#12)

Here is our chronology internal to the fictional universe:
-533 First Channel by Jean Lorrah and Jacqueline Lichtenberg
-518 Channel's Destiny by Jean Lorrah and Jacqueline Lichtenberg
-468 The Farris Channel by Jacqueline Lichtenberg
-20  Ambrov Keon by Jean Lorrah
-15  House of Zeor by Jacqueline Lichtenberg
0  Zelerod's Doom by Jacqueline Lichtenberg and Jean Lorrah
1 To Kiss Or To Kill by Jean Lorrah
1 The Story Untold And Other Sime~Gen Stories by Jean Lorrah
132  Unto Zeor, Forever by Jacqueline Lichtenberg
152  Mahogany Trinrose by Jacqueline Lichtenberg
224  Unity - "Operation High Time" by Jacqueline Lichtenberg
  232  RenSime by Jacqueline Lichtenberg
245  Personal Recognizance by Jacqueline Lichtenberg

Both chronologies are being printed in the Borgo Press editions and will be used to create promotional material.

Jean just got back the pdf of TO KISS OR TO KILL and will do that, then do Ambrov Keon while I move on to Farris Channel -- ALL THE OTHER BOOKS ARE DONE -- though some still need to have the pdf checked. So we are almost finished with our part of this, but we expect Wildside to take quite a while getting the books into the e-book channels. Once they've there, we're hoping the fans will spread the word. All the books will be in tree-book format as well. HOUSE OF ZEOR is already available on Amazon in nice acid free paper form.

<jl> End President's Report
<Karen> So noted. End of President's report. Jacqueline, do you want to go on to the stock report?
<jl> Here's the Board of Director's non-voting preferred stock awards for this year.

Stock Awards
Jacqueline Lichtenberg, President, Sime~Gen, Inc.

We didn't do much work on the server this year, and departments have come to a stop, but a few folks have kept on slogging, so we are awarding the same station-keeping stock awards we did last year. These few, hard working individuals have indeed contributed a steady and faithful effort over this very difficult time.
  Kaíres Tévesu - 1 share
  Karen MacLeod - 2 shares
  Lois Wickstrom - 1 share
  Patric Michael - 3 shares
  Wendy Fischer - 1 share
  Lisa Saunders - 2 shares
Ronnie Bob Whitaker - 2 shares

<jl> We expect 2011 to be a more active year filled with new initiatives in publicizing the Sime~Gen novels after moving to our new hosting facility.
<jl> The stock letters have been mailed.
<Karen> Thank you, Jacqueline.
<jl> Next year, (well, 2011) we expect the huge project of moving to a new ISP service as well as publicizing the new books. So there will be plenty of work.
<Karen> In light of so few people being present this year, I make a motion that we forgo the usual fan awards.
<Seanara> Seconded
<Karen> Please vote on the motion to forgo the usual fan awards for the 2010 year.
<MTZ> aye
<Seanara> aye
<Karen> So voted and passed. No fan awards will be given out for the 2010 year.
<Karen> I propose that we close the meeting. Please vote.
<MTZ> aye
<Seanara> Seconded.
<MTZ> ah, retract that aye if we are going to see Jean
<Karen> Jean said she'd be late. She had to do pet therapy and then care for a friend's cat. Then let's "suspend" the meeting for now, and wait for Jean. Those who have to leave, or wish to leave can do so at any time. I propose we "suspend" the meeting at this point, and wait for Jean if it is so agreed. Second and vote on this, please.
<Seanara> Seconded.
<Margaret> aye
<Seanara> aye
<Karen> So voted and approved. We will wait a reasonable time for Jean to appear.
<Jean - via AIM and re-posted by Karen> TigueSays: Our "Ace Double" should be out soon, with all new never-before-published S~G.
<Karen> KMacLEOD: WHEN. That's something they'd like to know.
<Karen> TigueSays: When Wildside/Borgo tells us, we'll know. I just last night got back the final galley for TO KISS OR TO KILL. As soon as I finish proofing it, it will go inline for publication. They've been running a month to six weeks from galleys to publication, but I don't know if they are developing a longer backlog as more books come in. Oh--the whole Savage Empire set will come back into print after we finish S~G. I don't think there's any more news from me.
