The Beach
Mike Wood
Sea teased pebbles clattered on the shore. Shadows that once lay across
the beach were burnt to pale ash. Stones melted and turned to sand.
The Moon drove the tides and washed away the Sun’s triumph. Above
the cliffs, gulls, unaware of their wings, unafraid of the height, croaked
a litany to the day and night.
