Unto Zeor, Forever
by
Jacqueline Lichtenberg

Together with the first short piece of Sime~Gen fiction ever written down (as a writing school exercise, not for sale) To Strike a Spark: To Light A Fire, these three novels comprise the story of Digen Farris's life as Sectuib in Zeor.

In Unto Zeor, Forever, in the year 132 After Unity, Digen is just finishing Medical School in Gen Territory and beginning his Internship.  At the same time, in-Territory, he's Sectuib in Zeor, and working for the Tecton as a Channel.

He has a dream - to bring the Gen techniques of Surgery into Sime Territory, and Channel's techniques of diagnosis and Healing out-Territory, to further Unity, to save lives and improve life.

Many see this innovation as a threat to the Tecton and its promise to all Gens to put an end to the Kill - for even the Sectuib in Zeor may not be able to withstand the stress of exposure to Gen pain involved in surgery - pain that could undermine a Channel's anti-Kill conditioning.

If the Sectuib in Zeor Kills - that would surely end Unity forever.

In the year 152, Aild Ercy Farris, Digen's daughter, is being watched for signs of Changeover.  And she's running late - nearly 6 years late.

Digen accepts on first zlin a new Companion, Halimer Grant, who seems to have been sent by the Tecton to help with Ercy's changeover -- and Grant allows the assumption to stand.  Digen knows Ercy will be a powerful Channel and a great Sectuib.

And he's right.  But what he doesn't know is that Ercy is totally unsuited for the role of Sectuib at this time in Zeor's history.  She has a dangerous set of talents that must be trained or put her life at risk.

What Halimer Grant doesn't know is that he's about to become responsible for her training, which will bring him to return home and confront the problems that drove him away -- because only at his home, far, far outside the Tecton's control, can Ercy find the help she must have.

RenSime
by

RenSime begins at Digen's funeral as Mairis Farris, Digen's great-grandson, now assuming the mantle of Sectuib in Zeor, prepares to give the State funeral oration.

The novel includes flashbacks that fill in some of the developments in Digen's life since his daughter left, but it is the story of Laneff Farris ambrov Sat'htine, a rare oddity, a Farris renSime -- and even rarer, a disjunct Farris renSime who survived to adulthood.

Mairis, as much of a wild-eyed idealist as any of his illustrious ancestors, has heard of Laneff's research into finding a way to tell Sime from Gen before birth and summons her to the funeral to offer monetary and official support.  Her research is the first and so far only chance of solving the problem of Berserker Kills.  She is the hope of humanity at this crucial moment in history.

However, the Householdings have bitter enemies.  The poignant renewal of Digen's dream of Unity between Sime and Gen Territories crystalized by Mairis's speech at the funeral is the perfect occasion for a terrorist attack - broadcast worldwide.

And in full view of the media, Laneff Farris ambrov Sat'htine falls victim to those Terrorists and Kills again -- condemning herself by Tecton law to no more than one year of life in ever failing health, in a maximum security prison, and is kidnapped by the terrorists who sweep her away in a helicopter.  And with her goes all hope of this next great step in Unity.

But in the audience is another Gen who wants to see that hope realized and has the means to do it despite terrorists and Tecton.
