Phillipe is on his way to Albin House which is the center of power for the Duchy of Montrouge. Bernard, The Duke, is a young man trying to maintain power and restore his dukedom to greatness. Phillipe is key to the Duke's goals. Phillipe is a seer who can foresee many possible futures. Right now he is seeing death and destruction. Bernard is determined to change that future.

However one of the keys is complicated, Bernard's sister Zuli. Zuli is Goddess marked which makes others afraid of her. She has never had a romantic relationship and certainly does not see herself married and with children. Phillipe's visions say otherwise. In fact the future depends on Zuli getting married.

Zuli just knows that Phillipe is a fraud! And how could someone who is Goddess marked ever get married! She has plans to put obstacles in his path. Although Zuli is convinced Phillipe is lying about seeing the future, she is also physically drawn to him. Phillipe sees past Zuli's Goddess mark and cannot understand why she thinks she could never be married. For now Phillipe is not telling Bernard that Zuli is the key to the future.
