The Jewels of Earda is the story of Liara and Reena, half-sisters born to carry
the White and Black Jewels, and the other Jewel-Holders. Liara, the sister
who is destined to carry the White Jewel, has been sheltered all her life from
the truth of her destiny. Reena, on the other hand, has been groomed to take the
evil black jewel from her mother. However, Reena’s tutor was a good man, and
gave her a moral education. Thus, when the time came for Reena to take the
jewel, she had all ready decided to do well with it. The jewel had different
ideas, though, and corrupted her. How Liara gathers the other jewel-holders to
her side and helps them overcome Reena’s evil will keep you reading this
fascinating book.
The jewel holders and their powers are, for some, only touched upon. Liara and
Reena, however, are described in better detail. Still, the sisters in some areas
seem only foils of each other, and not full people. Many of the other characters
could have been better written also.
The story is still intriguing, and well worth reading. The ideas of jewel
holders, matriarchal tribes and the ‘chosen’ men were fascinating, and
helped keep this book interesting. I enjoyed reading this book.
