Fantasy Films

by Susan H Bartlett

Featured Work

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

by Andrew Adamson

This faithful adaptation of C. S. Lewis' Christian allegory should be on everyone's must see list.

X-Men

by Bryan Singer

Marvelous adaptation of the comic books.
X-2: X-Men United

by Bryan Singer

Continuing the saga of the X-Men.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

by Kerry Conran

This wonderful bit of alternate history is so much like the pulps. May be the future of movie making - everything except the actors and actresses was digitally created.
The Secret of NIMH

by Don Bluth

Wonderful fantasy based on an equally wonderful book.

Forget the sequel - Secret of NIMH II: Timmy to the Rescue.
The Nightmare Before Christmas

by Tim Burton

Wonderful fantasy about Jack Skellington, King of Halloweentown, who tries to take over Christmas.
Corpse Bride

by Tim Burton

Sweet story of a man who accidentally "marries" a corpse.
The Hobbit

by Arthur Rankin & Jules Bass

Until someone decides to film a live-action edition, this animated tale of the prequel to "The Lord of the Rings" will have to do.
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

by Peter Jackson

The first of Tolkien's fantasy masterpiece lovingly brought to life by a Director who obviously cared for his work.

Also available in an extended edition with quite a bit of new material.
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

by Peter Jackson

The Trilogy continues with this centerpiece of Tolkien's masterwork of Fantasy.

Also available in an extended edition with quite a bit of new material.
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

by Peter Jackson

The trilogy concludes with this fine adaptation of Tolkien's fantasy classic.

Also available in an extended edition with quite a bit of new material.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

by Norm Goldstein

Although it cuts out a good portion of the original novel, the Tri-Wizard Tournament info is dead on - and a happy return to well done book adaptations.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

by Alfonso Curan

Does not live up to the earlier films, but still a reasonably good adaptation of the original book.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

by Chris Columbus

Another great adaptation of the original book.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

by Chris Columbus

The first of the HP movies is a wonderful adaptation of the novel.
Spiderman

by Sam Raimi

Wonderful screen adaptation of the comics.
Spiderman II

by Sam Raimi

One time when a sequel is actually as good as, if not better than, the original.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

by Tim Burton

This remake, IMHO, did not have the luster of the original, but the new special effects are worth watching.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

by Mel Stuart

I still think Gene Wilder did it better...
The Dark Crystal

by Jim Henson

Forget the "Muppets" and watch the wonderful story unfold.
The Wizard of Oz

by Victor Fleming

The new restoration process gives this fantasy classic a richly deserved new life.
The Neverending Story

by Wolfgang Petersen

This is a great movie with a great moral. Something to entertain the young ones while you write.
Willow

by George Lucas

This attempt (the story was written by George Lucas) to start a Fantasy franchise failed in the theater, but still keeps my daughter entertained.
Shrek

by Andrew Adamson & Vicky Jenson

Hilarious tale of a fractured fairy land.
Shrek II

by Andrew Adamson & Kelly Asbury

Funny sequel to the original.

A Short Biography of Susan Bartlett

Who am I?

I'm a former romance author trying to get back into the swing of things. I'm married, and have a wonderful daughter. My old romances were written back in my naive youth. By today's standards, I guess you could call them "Scooby Doo" Romance/Mysteries. My biggest seller was "Curse of the Mummy's Tomb".

The basic plot was: A young female American archaeologist is working at an Egyptian dig. She has a "crush" on the Assistant to the Senior American Archaeologist, until a mysterious stranger, in the form of an Egyptian liaison, comes into her life. After discovering an unusual artifact in an old tomb, mysterious things begin happening in the camp. Many clues point to a Mummy's curse that has overtaken the party. Events indicate that a real Mummy may be stalking the crew. This causes our heroine to seek solace in the arms of the liaison. After the death of the senior archaeologist, the party eventually tracks down the real cause of the events - an Egyptian man who wants the artifacts to remain in Egypt instead of being placed in an American museum. She uses these events to help her decide that she does not want to spend the rest of her life in Egypt with the liaison - just in time for the Assistant to propose to her due to his advancement into the (now deceased) Senior Archaeologist's position.

I want to start writing again - and heavily revise my old stories. I couldn't tell the types of stories I wanted to tell when I was originally writing. I wanted to have real Mummies, and real ghosts, and real monsters. Now, with the popularity of the new Gothic Horror Romance, I can write the stories I want. My daughter is grown now and I have lots of time on my hands. You will hear from me again.

By the way, if you find any of my old romances on the shelf anywhere, let me know. I lost my only copies during a move and have none of my old books to go by.
