Welcome to our volunteer spotlight of Smitha Dilish.

Below is an interview I had with Smitha.

Elizabeth:  What influenced your decision to volunteer at Sime~Gen?

Smitha:  I am here on a visa that does not permit me to have a source of income, though I am a qualified candidate.  Hence I decided to volunteer my talent and skill in the area of web designing.  I came across this opportunity searching through volunteer jobs on the Internet.

Elizabeth:  Since joining Sime~Gen, what have you learned?

Smitha:  I have been redesigning web pages and in the process I have learnt how important it is to arrange the contents on a web page - content management.

Elizabeth:  How does your Sime~Gen skills affect your work?

Smitha:  This is the only work I am doing currently and I am sure it will help in all future endeavors.

Elizabeth:  What kind of 'hats' do you handle?

Smitha:  I joined Sime~Gen as an Assistant Webmaster.  I follow the instructions given by Patric.  Primary responsibility so far has been redesigning the top page, reviews page, press page, what is simegen, romance page and the awards page.

Elizabeth:  What is your most current assignment?

Smitha:  Until recently I had been updating the "What's New" page with new entries announced to the sgstaff list.  At present the goal is to learn Python scripting.

Elizabeth:  How did volunteering help you?

Smitha:  This is my first volunteering opportunity and it gave me a chance to utilize and keep in touch with technical skills.

Elizabeth:  Who did you meet?

Smitha:  People I have interacted with so far:  Jacqueline Lichtenberg, Karen MacLeod and Patric.

Elizabeth:  Make lasting friendships with?

Smitha:  It has only been few months since I have joined Sime~Gen.  I am still looking forward to this.
