Sime~Gen(tm) Inc., the company behind simegen.com, is a small corporation with an Internet
domain that the owners have poured time and money into for the past year and a half. Now, with our new design launched,
it is time for the domain to begin to pay back some of its costs.
Sharing the work are a number of Gatemasters, Assistant Gatemasters, and other volunteers
who give unstintingly of their time and energy to make simegen.com a success. They
deserve a share of whatever income they help to produce. Our revenue sharing program is
also intended to encourage Gatemasters and other volunteers, new and old, to solicit advertising wherever they
can, because the more income you bring to Sime~Gen Inc. and simegen.com, the more you
receive.
Our current goal is to make simegen.com self-sustaining--actually making a profit is a
dream for the future. If you don't help (helping yourself at the same time), eventually
the seed money the owners have put in will run out, the bills will come due, and one day
typing in the URL http://www.simegen.com will take you nowhere at all.
Why Revenue Sharing is better than Profit Sharing:
You get a share of profits through Profit Sharing only if there are
profits. In Revenue Sharing, you get a share of the revenue whether there are any
profits or not.
We do not expect to make profits for a very long time, as any income we earn beyond
our ongoing expenses will go into expansion and improvement of simegen.com. But through
our Revenue Sharing program you get your share off the top. You don't have to wait
for us to start earning a profit to start earning income at simegen.com.
How our Revenue Sharing program works:
There is no Revenue Sharing on the agency ads in our external banner carousel.
There is Revenue Sharing on all individual advertising, whether banners (on
individual pages or in the internal banner carousel), pages, or classified ads in the
newsletters. See our
The person who brings in advertising and places it on a website or in a newsletter
receives a share of the gross payment for that advertising.
How large a percentage? For merely soliciting and placing ads created by the customers,
30% of what the advertiser pays. For actually working with the customer to create
the advertising banners or pages (which of course costs the customer more), 50%.
Exception: if one person solicits and obtains the advertising and someone else does the
work of creating it and/or placing it on the pages, the person who obtained the ad
receives 3% of the cost, taken equally from the shares of Sime~Gen Inc. and the person who
creates and/or places the ad.
Examples:
1. Gwendolyn solicits an advertising banner to place in the
simegen.com carousel. The customer chooses the discount package of running the same banner
for three months for $40.00.
Gwendolyn did not create the banner, but she solicited the ad and placed it, so she
receives 30% of the revenue, or $12.00. Sime~Gen Inc. receives the remaining $28.00.
2. Kirk, who either doesn't have the skills or hasn't time to create the page, solicits a
full-page ad from another customer to run on simegen.com for three months at a total cost
of $500 (we wish!).
Jennifer, who does have the web design skills and time, is put in contact with the this
second customer, and creates and places the page on simegen.com.
Kirk receives 3% of $500, or $15.00, for obtaining the advertiser.
The remaining revenue of $485 is split 50/50 between Jennifer and Sime~Gen Inc., each
receiving $242.50.
Who may participate in Revenue Sharing?
Gatemasters, Assistant Gatemasters, and other volunteers. However, if you are not one of our regular volunteers, but have particular skills at
creating banners or websites and would like to be on our list of people to contact when
our regular staff are unavailable (or perhaps do not have the one particular skill you are
good at), please contact simegen@simegen.com and let us know.
If your skill is in soliciting advertising, whether you have design skills or not, we need you! We are looking for an Advertising Manager. Just soliciting advertising will bring you 3% of each ad that comes through you. If you actually decide the placement of the ad and put it in place you earn 30%, and if you also have
design skills you can earn 50% of the revenue from banners or pages you create. However,
the Advertising Manager or any Assistants will not receive a percentage of ads solicited by other staff members, unless you have a hand in the work.
Sharing of Advertising Packages:
It has already happened, and will continue to happen, that advertising customers want
package deals in which they require banners, pages, and ads in our newsletters. Sometimes
more than one of our staff members will be involved in satisfying all their requirements.
In that case, once the deal with the customer is settled on, the Sime~Gen Inc. Treasurer
will compute the share of each participant on a percentage basis of the actual revenue
received. In other words, a banner that alone would cost $40.00 for three months would
as part of a package deal with a 20% discount cost the customer only $32.00--so the share
of the person placing the banner would be 30% of $32.00, not 30% of $40.00. The same would
be true for every staff member doing part of the work in this package deal: 30% or 50% of
the pro-rated share of monies actually received goes to each participant.
Payment schedule:
Payments of monies due are made quarterly, in early April, July, October, and the very end
of December. All monies owed you from January through March are paid in April, April
through June in July, July through September in October, and the remainder of the year in
late December. If the amount owed you in any quarter is less than $5.00, it will be held
over to the following quarter, except for the final quarter of the year when all payments
will be made, no matter how small.
Your status:
You work for Sime~Gen Inc. as an Independent Contractor. You are not our employee, but are
rather paid by the job. If you purchase anything in order to do the work, or if you hire someone else to do part of the work, that is the same as if you were a building contractor building a house for us: we are in contact with you, and we pay you. The rest is only your business, not ours.
As an Independent Contractor you are obliged to perform the work
you agreed to by the deadline you agreed to, but Sime~Gen Inc. has no control over what
hours you work, where you are when you do the work, what hardware or software you use,
etc. We do not provide you with an office, a computer, art supplies, or any other tools.
