THE INTERVIEW

CarolCastellanos: Hi, How are you?

Marilyn: I'm good Carol.

CarolCastellanos: What genres do you write?

Marilyn: Contemporary erotic romance and contemporary erotic romantic suspense.

CarolCastellanos: Where do you get your ideas?

Marilyn: I get ideas from overheard conversations, newspaper articles, other books, and almost any place where people can be found and observed.

CarolCastellanos: Do you pattern your characters after any real people?

Marilyn: Not really. Although real people or situations may provide the original trigger to get the idea started.

CarolCastellanos: What authors do you admire?

Marilyn: Edgar Rice Burroughs, Jules Verne, Jane Austen

CarolCastellanos:What authors do you read?

Marilyn: In addition to the authors listed above, I read Sandra Kitt and Jo Dereske.

CarolCastellanos: What genres do you read?

Marilyn: In addition to romance, I read a lot of mystery and romance suspense.

CarolCastellanos: What other genres do you see yourself writing?

Marilyn:I'm enjoying writing erotic romance and I envision writing it for the forseeable future.

CarolCastellanos: What do you see yourself doing in 10 years?

Marilyn:Writing mostly erotic mysteries.

CarolCastellanos: Do you see yourself ever not writing?

Marilyn:No. I can't imagine that.

CarolCastellanos: What books do you have planned in the near future?

Marilyn:I have several erotic romance novels in the works which I look forward to having published.

CarolCastellanos: How did you get started writing?

Marilyn:I can't remember, because I can't remember a time when I didn't write.

CarolCastellanos: What age were you when you started to write?

Marilyn:I think I was thirteen when I got my first typewriter, but before that I wrote volumes by hand.

CarolCastellanos:When is your next book due?

Marilyn:I'm still polishing up A Thing Called Love, which I hope to have ready soon

CarolCastellanos: What do you feel makes your books unique or stand out from others in your genre?

Marilyn:I don't know that there are that many erotic romance novels that are real romances rather than just sex with a little plot thrown in. Although my novels are erotic is tone, they are foremost romance novels.

CarolCastellanos: What made you choose the genres you write?

Marilyn:Writing erotic novels came natural because I love romance, but most romances weren't spicy enough for me. I decided to combine my two loves, romances and erotica.

CarolCastellanos: Do you have a special subgenre?

Marilyn:My next novel, A Thing Called Love combines romance, mystery, and interracial romance. I'd enjoyed A Thing Called Love so much, that I may write another novel with the same elements.

CarolCastellanos: Do you have a favorite place you like to write?

Marilyn:I love to write in bed with my laptop. And in the spring, I love to sit on my front porch, enjoying nature as I write.

CarolCastellanos: In what order do you write? For example starting beginning to end, combining parts, in random order or in development cycle?

Marilyn:It depends on the book. Some books I write according to an outline, other times I write the beginning, then the end, then go back and go the middle.

CarolCastellanos: Do you feel that the e-books afford authors a bit more freedom of expression in their books?

Marilyn:Absolutely. That's one of the reasons I love it so much. Eauthors have much more freedom to move across genre boundaries.

CarolCastellanos: What do you feel is, or isn't being done to promote authors?

Marilyn: My publisher, Renaissance E Books does a lot to promote its authors and the publisher keep authors apprise on what's going on with the company.

CarolCastellanos: Do you feel that the marketing departments have their finger on the pulse of readers?

Marilyn:My publisher is open to new approaches, so new, I think that's a fair statement.

CarolCastellanos: How do you feel about review rating systems?

Marilyn:I love them (as long as my novels get high marks. If not, I'm not so fond of them. : - ) )

CarolCastellanos: Through what venues do you feel most of your books are being sold?

Marilyn:Most of my books are sold through my publishers website.

CarolCastellanos: What do you feel is the best part of the publishing industry?

Marilyn:I think the best part of the epublishing industry is how open most houses are to allowing authors to write without worrying overly about genre boundaries.

CarolCastellanos: Do you think small press and e-books will be the wave of the future?

Marilyn:I think they are a big part of the future. As an avid reader, I still enjoy paperbacks, but these days I read as many books on my handheld reader as I do in paper and I enjoy both.
