Did You Know?
Historical Gleanings

A mechanical duck was built in 1738 by Jacques Vaucanson.  It did everything lifelike.  The duck moved its wings, sat up and sat down, preen and drink water.  Most astonishing, it ate, digest and defecated like a 'real' duck.

An "artificial lifeform" was built in 1774 by Pierre Jaquet-Droz.  This doll was called Lady-Muscian and she played on a harpsichord with her eyes following her fingers.  For an emotional illusion, the doll breathes as she plays.
