Perpetual Motion Machine
Matthew Masucci

From here, there is anywhere.

At zero-point, my quantum state begins to flux.
A warmth spreads throughout my body
as the computer syncs, warding off the cold
of empty interstellar space.

We are one.

Plugged into my flesh like stents in arteries,
I am ship,
thrusting into the blank, empty canvas of space,
painting trails with the debris of my engines.

The dark matter swarms around me,
pushing in on my hull,
the pressure testing each bolt and girder,
every nerve and neuron.

The strain is bliss in that symphonic harmony.

Silently slipping through the void,
each system, each planet, each singularity
open to my exploration.

I will find what I am looking for
when I decide what it is that I should find.

It is said that perpetual motion isn’t possible,
yet, here I am:
my soul providing the power,
and my wake in the stardust.
