Anne Pinzow in Her Own Words
Unlike the popular convenience store, my birthday is Eleven/Seven, 1949. However, the local facility is a favorite late stop haunt on my way back from covering town meetings in my present endeavors as a journalist.
While I am the first born "Pinzow" in my immediate family, I am only the second born "Pinzow" in this country. My ancestors, from just two generations back, come from Russia, Poland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland and Mongolia, if family legend is based in fact. So, in other words, I'm a pure born American.
Also, according to family legend, my great grandfather Pinzow was kidnapped as a child of 10, never to see his family again. When he was 18 he found himself at the railroad station in Pinzoff and took the name for himself.
From an early age I was trained in the appreciation of music and art, even learning the rudiments of violin, piano, guitar, the trumpet and drums. Also, I had always wanted to be a ballerina but was thwarted by a lack of family funds combined with parental reluctance to take anything I had to say seriously.
I also attempted stage acting but could not ever get beyond the "chorus." However, my voice gave out on me and I could no longer achieve being one of the crowd. Frustrated in my performing endeavors, I turned to writing during my teens and I never stopped. As it happens, I never did well in composition in school. My teachers had no imagination when it came to grammar, spelling and punctuation.
However, my imagination, though constantly thwarted in the real world, made itself known with a burst of fantasy throughout my teens. I'd make up stories constantly, too afraid to commit such unorthodox musings to paper.
It was not until my 20s, when I discovered Star Trek fandom and the fan community, that I began writing fiction. I started with fanzine stories, then short stories of my own, and eventually progressed to scripts, all the while earning my living as a nonfiction writer.
As of 2004, I am studying Cabbala with Rabbi Chaim Dalfin and working as Website Director for the Center for Jewish Education in Rockland as well as Freelancing.See my resume here.
