The
Galactic League
They made their way to the entrance to the laboratory tower, and stepped inside. They rose to the residential level they had shared, and went to their respective apartments.
A few minutes later, the felinoid arrived, a snarl on his muzzle and a piece of snowy quark-paper clenched in one clawed paw. He strode directly to Metz's door, and thumped heavily upon it.
It opened, and he stepped in.
A few minutes later, the human arrived, a look of bleak despair on his face, and he slunk to Siggurdsons door, tapped timidly, was admitted.
Then all hell broke loose.

Does this sound like fun? Many people have lived scenes just like this one -- through the pages of a book or magazine, or on the silver screen. Some of them have even played complex role-playing games to act out these scenes. But all of them, every single one of them, has wished that they could be part of something just like it. This is the reason for the phenomenal success of science fiction and fantasy books, movies, conventions, and games.
But none of them give the participant the opportunity to create anything new, except in a small and transient way. There is either the long, hard road of the professional writer -- months and years of sweat and frustration, punctuated by peaks of reward and satisfaction -- or being relegated to the position of observer.
The Galactic League is where the dream begins.
The GL is the newest idea in SF role-playing organizations. It is entirely the milieu of the DEDICATED Science Fiction fan -- from the first word to the last! There are no limits to the involvement a member can engage in, from crewman on a patrol ship to League President! There are many ways you can participate in the League:
Start your own starship, and make your OWN adventures as a chartered GL Chapter. It only takes 3 people to start!
The Tren Vaian patrol ship shuddered with the impact.
"Status report!" Captain Berling yelled to the engineering officer.
"Communications transmitter destroyed, Life Support has sustained critical damage, sensors damaged, engines at half power, and there are several small hull breaches," Lieutenant Commander Worley listed. "Damage Control is containing them."
"Status on the other ships?"
"75117 destroyed," Science Officer Grebler announced, shouting over the fire suppression system. "75116 severely damaged and breaking up. If we can trust sensors, there are no life signs on either ship."
Berling suppressed a curse. "The enemy?"
"The attackers are heading back into the nebula, sir."

If planetary government and interstellar Parliaments are more your cup of tea, invent your own home world and ask for membership in the Galactic Council. One person, acting alone, can create an interstellar empire spanning dozens of star systems!
"A major food source is a strategic site that our allies would send whole fleets to protect," Jua stated. "And even if Ne-Bantu fell to an enemy, that enemy would not destroy our world for the same reason. But history shows us that an enemy will launch almost his whole armada at a munitions site for just one purpose to destroy it!"
"Jua, you sound like you want us to prepare for surrender to the Khaarain!"
"Father, I want us prepared for whatever happens," he said solemnly. "Peace or war. The right strategy will make us the most valuable planet on both sides of the border."
"And the wrong strategy will keep us the weakest."
"Weakest?" The prince looked at the King with a critical eye. "Is all this about Ne-Bantan welfare or your personal prestige? Do you want the League s respect as a capable ruler or everyone s fear of a deadly arms dealer?"
"Politics of Fear", edited by W A. Howlett
Or, if you just want to hop around the stars and see the sights, just become a regular member, and well assign you to the duty that suits you best.
Stealth Mode.
Her knife was out of her boot and into her left fist almost before she was fully aware of her action. She pushed her perceptive powers to their limit, >looking around the first corner before stepping.
An empty corridor of steel and stone.
No sound but her own breathing.
...Almost no sound. Where -
The elevator returned to her level. She looked back around the corner. Three prison guards in riot gear were advancing on her intersection, shield rifles at the ready.
She cursed her own carelessness as she stepped out into full view. "Commander Finn-Jaeger!" she called out. "Legion Security!"
"Finn-Jaeger..." the leader began, thoughtfully. "Youre the Khaarain, arent you?" He peered closer at Sang, and she saw a sudden gleam of hatred in his eyes.
She jumped back around the corner as they tried to fire.

What can I expect to find in the League?
There is room for anything in the League. Starships, interstellar intrigue, spectacular science and things that appear to be the purest magic. All of it created by the members themselves! There is only ONE catch. We want the League to be not only the newest SF fan organization, but the BEST -- so we will help you with the best scientific, historical, and military backing we can find, to give you every advantage when assembling your adventures! No more complaining about 90-foot spiders or ships "whooshing" through space! Like I said, the GL is for DEDICATED SF fans --the ones that want their fiction to be quality, top-notch writing. And, once you have made your adventures the best they can be, we=ll PRINT them in our own magazines!
What publishing opportunities will I have?
We publish AlterNations, the League Anthology, twice a year -- coinciding with the dates of Duckon in the summer and WindyCon in the winter. All League members are encouraged and assisted -- in writing their own stories, or they may contribute to another author s work. The third issue of AlterNations was a novel written by the entire League --more than twelve separate contributions -- edited into a single work. A three-author mega-novel called Blood Factor will be published soon, two and a half years work in the making.
We have also published our Members Sourcebook, a 150+ page loose-leaf volume that contains everything a new member would need to know to jump in and start having fun. It has been designed to be easily expandable and updateable as the organization grows.
Who owns what I create?
YOU DO. The League actually provides more protection for your creative property than the law defines. According to the law, you can copyright any tangible thing you create -- a story, a piece of art, a clothing pattern, or any other creative thing that is a reasonably-unique thing unto itself. But you can t really copyright an IDEA. In the League, we feel that we have an ethical responsibility, if not a legal one, to recognize the ideas you have begun to turn into reality --we will not allow another League member to use what you've created without your permission in any League publication. A member DOES have to grant what is called "permissive use", which is the right for the League and his fellow members to refer freely to his work, and to use non-unique elements of it within the League milieu. Example: A member wishes to write a story about a Saardonii, one of the races in the League. If it is just Mr. Randomly-Generated #153, who happens to be a bartender, this character does not have to be approved by the Saardonii's creator. If, however, that writer wishes to use Duke Sir Rodney Bainbridge-Smythe, who is a specific Saardonii that used to be Secretary-General of the League, that use would have to be cleared with Sir Rodney's creator, as the creator has specific ideas about how Sir Rodney would properly act and things he would say and wouldnt say.
When youve added enough substance to the League to warrant it (such as when you create a new race that is accepted for Council membership), you will receive the Creative Estate agreement, which spells everything out in detail. We've had this agreement examined by a qualified copyright attorney, to make certain your rights are properly safeguarded.
Im not a writer. What can I do in the League?
Writers are not the only people with a place in the League. Artists are treasures beyond belief, and our anthologies beg for illustration. Blood Factor alone boasts over FIFTY pieces of original, full-page art! Scientists of all kinds are welcome to help us keep our science consistent. Costumers have found rich pastures for their fertile imaginations, and the League has assisted them by getting involved in masquerade competitions throughout Chicago-area fandom. More and more, the name of the Galactic League is being associated with excellence and competence, as we bring our combined expertise to the assistance of conventions and other organizations.
When and where does the League meet?
The League meets once a month in the Chicago suburbs on the second Saturday, and attends all major science fiction and fantasy conventions held in the Chicago area. Members works are those first selected for publication, and all members receive a 30% discount on ALL League products. Just fill out the membership form and send it to Galactic League Headquarters with a check or money order for your initiation fee and your first dues payment. You will receive further information by phone or return mail as soon as possible!

A large, tentacled lump fell directly on top of the energy-weapon crew, scattering them and dropping the device to the floor. "Ensign!" Screeched an electronic voice. "Take out the gun!"
Dropping to one knee, Juanita used her blaster s final shot to destroy the Lynxian hand-cannon, the white beam of her weapon vaporizing the front quarter of the gun s muzzle. Then her force field was flickering, nearly drained. She dropped the blaster and scrabbled for her axe, slung across her back. As the force bubble dropped, the massed T re ha surged forward once again, chittering insanely.
They met a whirling dervish of razor-sharp Damascus steel. The great battle-axe whirred and whistled through the air, as Juanita Valdez fought for her life!
