Due to missing text in the first book of the Dushau trilogy, Jacqueline has authorized the publication of the following note:

The following is text missing from Questar's published edition of Dushau. (It was not missing from bound galleys!)

As she sidled through the Dushau, she glimpsed Desdinda's (go to top of p.192)

A short story of JL's will appear in Worlds of If magazine (6 issues for $6.50, PO Box 93, Hicksville, NY 11802.) It concerns a magical universe which she won't be developing further. There will also be a short story by Kerry Schaefer. Jean Lorrah's solo S/G novel, Ambrov Keon, is now available on the newstands. Zelerod's Doom by JL and Jean is now available from DAW. Time is about 16 years after House of Zeor.

JL is currently preparing to submit two new manuscripts for publication, Icy Nager by Andrea Alton and Only Good Sime by Kerry Schaefer. A brief synopsis of both stories follows.

Only Good Sime by Kerry Schaefer. This story takes place during the time Muryin Farris, Klyd's daughter, was sectuib in Zeor and before the Battle of Leander Field. Frevven is a disjunct, first-order channel whose secret desire is to someday be good enough to be asked to pledge Zeor. Much to his distress he is assigned to Innsfrey Island, an out-territory Sime Center. Assigned to study the decreasing changeover rate among island children, he discovers and then overcomes the efforts of the Church of Salvation through Faith to murder all children who go into changeover. At the same time he is reminded of his own out-territory childhood and has to cope with psychological problems that he thought that he had settled long ago.

Icy Nager by Andrea Alton. This is the story of Rafe Merryweather whom the Simes call Icy Nager. He is a Sime-Sider ... that is he is a Gen who makes it his profession to go across the Border into Sime territory and rescue Gen prisoners. His cousin's daughter is taken. She is the daughter of General Cohen who is General of the Western Army. Fearing if Cohen finds out his daughter has been taken In-Territory, Cohen will start a war, Rafe goes looking for the child. It just so happens that a Sime has been brought into the local jail. He knows the raiders who took the child and is willing to help get her back in return for his freedom. The Sime's name is Evanthal. They rescue the child who tells them that the men who captured her were not Simes, they were Gens and she was sold by them to the Raiders. The rest of the story consists of discovering the identity of the Gen-runners, while the Gen-runners are trying to kill off Rafe. Evanthal remains with Rafe and the story also revolves around their growing friendship. The time of this story is roughly in the period when Householdings were first forming, but before the time of Klyd Farris.

JL is interested in reader information in order to develop new universes. She would like to know what your favorite reading material is. List authors, genres, magazines or subjects. List hobbies, vacation choices, or professional reading. She wants to know what sorts of things you already know and what you don't know about.

If you have difficulty finding any particular SF/fantasy book, you might try A Change of Hobbit at: (street address removed), Santa Monica, CA 90404. They do mail order business and book searches. A SASE will get you their latest monthly newsletter and new title list.

Attention Pen Pals and inveterate letter writers

The Sime/Gen Welcommittee is pleased to announce a pen pal registration service. We will help you find other fen (S/G and others) who share your interests.

To register SASE Householding Chanel.

In return you will receive the current list and a registration form. Please indicate if you want the complete list or just people with a specific interest. Please don't make Chanel guess. Color Profile (a database of Klingon origin with a very fiendish mind) is very literal-minded.

Kraith

For those fen who don't know already, Jacqueline wrote a series of Star Trek stories collectively called Kraith stories. These stories appeared separately in fanzines, many of which are now defunct. For these stories, Jacqueline won a special recognition from the Hugo committee.

The Kraith universe is based of the premise that logic is beautiful. While Spock and Kirk have many adventures, the main character in all the stories is the Vulcan culture. The stories center around the building of a bridge between the expansionist culture of the Federation and the non-competitive but dynamic culture of Vulcan.

The Kraith series now appears in a collected form. They are now up to Kraith Collected #6. For more information, SASE Carol Lynn at: (street address removed), Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48320.

Fanzine Notes

Karen Litman, editor of Companion in Zeor, is looking for contributions to CZ. Her address: (street address removed), Somers PT., NJ 08244.

S/G material for the blind and handicapped is no longer being taped by Terry Terlau; however, there is a continuing need for these services. Karen Litman has taken charge of a project to find a new means for taping. The problem is obtaining, borrowing, or having someone who has the equipment, to continue the project. Raising money for the purchase of the equipment is an idea being considered, but it will be by donations from the dedication of fen who will not be able to benefit from the fanzines on tape. Purchase price would run to about $400. If anyone has any ideas, or is willing to help, please contact Karen.

Kerry Schaefer is doing a special one-shot 'zine on S/G sexuality Post Syndrome. SASE her: (street address removed), South Yarmouth, MA 02664
