FROM THE SECTUIB'S DESK..........

Happy New year to you one and all!!! I hope everyone had a very pleasant holiday season. Mine was very quiet and uneventful, but I really didn't mind.

One of my bosses gave me this program as a Christmas present. So I thought I'd try it out on this issue of FT. Please let me know what you think of this. If everyone I hear from likes it, I'll continue to use this program. If more of you who respond tell me you prefer the old way, I'll go back to my other method of putting this out. Personally, I rather like this program, and I'm really getting the hang of it!

My feline co-editor thinks it is simply wonderful of me to park my computer on my bed so she won't have to be in the hallway and glare at me while I type. This way she can sit next to me and stare at me until I pet her or just lie next to me and keep my hip warm. If it works, I'll try and put a picture of my fuzzy co-editor in a future issue of this newsletter.

Let me see--what shall I discuss besides my fuzzy co-editor. Darkover!!!!

As always, Darkover was a lot of fun for me. Since I had no real problems getting to the East Coast, I suppose you could say my adventure began when I finally landed in New Jersey on Friday morning. It is always a unique experience to ride with Karen's husband, Bruce, behind the wheel. Since it had snowed before I arrived Karen sent Bruce to collect me. As we stowed my two bags in the backseat of his little ford Escort, we discussed "how" we were transporting Slink and Shadow, the Con going cats that allow the Litman's to live with them.

Bruce had a couple of errands to run before we headed back to the Litman residence. I car sat while he carried out his errands. Once we reached Karen's "Little House in the Woods", packing of cars was still in progress. It was a good thing that Nadine Leeds-Spencer and Jay Schiff were going!! All the stuff that went would never have fit in Bruce's little car!

At the con itself, I had a great time. I participated in Kerry Schaefer's panel on S/G Fandom: Past, Present and Future. With Donell Meadows, I co-hostessed the yearly Faith Day Ceremony and party. My favorite part of the whole thing was sitting table in the Dealer's Room.

Speaking of Karen, I am pleased to report that since she entered into the riding program for people with handicaps, Karen is standing much taller these days! Congratulations on your "improved stature" Karen!!!! Keep up the good work.

CZ is slowly coming together after a fatal disk crash of the data disks she had worked so hard on to get CZ10 typed. She was 3/4 of the way finished when the disks crashed. I am pleased to tell you she has three less things to retype (rearrange is another question though) since I left my "other home" with her three longest articles to type for her.

One of the people I correspond with on an irregular basis due to his studies has informed me that he's passed his state boards. What, pray tell, is this fellow studying?! Keith Kenik has diligently been studying to become a doctor. In March he'll know where he will be doing his residency work. In the mean time, he'll be working at NIH in Washington, DC. Congratulations Keith!! I know you'll be successful wherever you go!!!!

If you have anything you'd like to share with the rest of fandom, feel free to drop me a note and let me know. I'll gladly print it here for you.

Yours in fandom and friendship,

WHO TO WRITE TO FOR ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS.....

Householding News

Shaeldor is now accepting members for their Householding. Shaeldor was originally created for fictional use by Kerry Lindemann-Schaefer for her Frevven stories. She's decided to open it up for fan membership.

Shaeldor's colors are brown and blue-green. The crest is a brown schooner against a blue-green background.

Anyone interested in pledging Shaeldor should know that aside from its S/G universe business, it has a very special mundane interest. What is it? It is the protection of the ocean and all of those plants and creatures that reside there. New pledgees should be willing to commit themselves to taking action to help the ocean on a regular basis. This could be in the form of joining an environmental group, writing to your senators, picking up trash on your local beach or waterway--anything to reverse the pollution of our seas and the death of its creatures. Group memberships in an environmental organization may be considered for the House as a whole.

JACQUELINE'S CORNER

I am now taking orders for DREAMSPY at $21.25, a dollar less than THOSE OF MY BLOOD because it's smaller. The paperbacks for both BLOOD and DREAMSPY are on indefinite delay as St. Martin's hasn't sold the rights yet.

I have no new novel sales to report at this time, though I'm working on an occult historical called PATH OF THE HEARTHFIRE.

At Noreascon, I was told by Jan Burke, the managing editor of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine that they are buying my story AVENTURA. It had been sold to IF MAGAZINE, years ago, the revived IF, but that 'zine folded without a trace and without publishing the story. For those who wish to be sure not to miss the story, you can subscribe or request single copies (you won't find this on many newsstands) directly from the magazine POB 11095, Piedmont, CA 94611-0001. Telephone number (415) 839-5700.

I have a few other small items on submission here and there, but I really have no idea what's going to happen next or when it might happen as I suddenly find myself in the process of changing agents. I am no longer a Scott Meredith client. At this very moment, I have no idea where I'll end up, but the situation is changing daily. The change of agents might change the publication/distribution profile drastically.

To date, I've never used a pen name, but at the moment I am considering the possibility of marketing some of my material under different bylines.

If that happens, it will be announced in detail in VANTAGE POINT NEWS, which is available from me (at PO Box 290, Monsey, NY 10952) for SASE. (Label the SASE VPN and give the date of the VPN you've seen. Otherwise, you'll get last year's long pink sheet.)

I'm having mechanical difficulties getting VPN out. I can't get my new IBM and its software to address all the fancy capabilities of my antique printer, so we're probably going to have a format change for VPN. Most of the news to date consists of changes of address for the various 'zine editors, and changes in who is editing what 'zine. A current address list should be available somewhere in this publication, but if you lose touch with any of us, try POB 290 Monsey, NY 10952.

If that doesn't work (and it probably won't in 1992 since my husband will be retiring and we'll probably be moving shortly thereafter), then check my latest book. If that doesn't work, try writing me care of my most recent publisher. Or any SF writer can look up my current address in the SFWA directory which is rarer, more than a year out of date. I intend to keep my N3F membership current and be on their address list. I'm listed in a number of Who's Who type publications, so try your local library.

The simplest method is just to keep a SASE on file for VPN because the first thing I'll do after getting settled is get out an issue with my new address--because I'll be looking for friends in my new locale!

By the Way, if any of you know of any really great retirement communities around you, I'd appreciate the info.

Live Long and Prosper
