CHANGE OVER REPORT

The changeover of Donald Combs into a farris channel has proven difficult, to say the least.

"So far we've had 3 attempts and 3 failures to get his fake forearms to cooperate with us, (and one slightly scorched macaroni pot).

The difficulty seems to lie in getting plastic to wrap around his forearm and stay there.

Plastruct needs to be heat treated, but we have found it to be too unforgiving for our purposes.

We've looked into latex (not that type of latex, you perverts, the mask type!!). For that we need special equipment and more time than one month. We will, however consider making it available to you simes who wish it, after Darkover con.

This will depend on how involved the process will be. Right now we have too much to worry about with the costume contest.

We have found sheets of flexible plastic, which take well to paint. Our problem with these is that they are not flexible enough to create a perfect donut wrap around Don's forearms. Velcro rips too easily. We may be forced to duct tape it together and cover the tape with molding wax, and makeup. This is very temporary and fragile. We will have to see how it works.

HOUSEHOLD CREST REPORT

We seem to be stumped as to ideas for our crest.

We have had one suggestion from Donald Combs. His suggestion was a rattlesnake coiled up, with head reared. A logo at the bottom would read "Don't zlin on me."

That suggestion got a resounding "Arrrgh!" from the sectuib, groans from the rest of the household, and a 9.5 rating on the vomit meter.

Before anyone can suggest it, no yellow smiley faces!

My suggestion is a burgundy silhouette of a bird in flight, against the background of a light grey moon. I want it simple because I have to a sew it for darkovercon.

If you have any suggestions for our crest mail it to me, or call me, my address and phone number is on page 7.

If we get a bunch of suggestions, and we can't agree on one of them, we will use an idea suggested by Kerry. We will put each one on a piece of paper, dump them into a hat and pick one out.

The following is a script of last year's faith day ceremony. It was sent to me by Kerry, so that I would have a good idea of what the shen is going on.

FAITH DAY CEREMONY

Linda: <welcomes everyone present (using her own wording)>

At this time we would like to remember Marge Robbins, who is unable to be with us at this time, as well as those other volunteers who are working for disaster relief.

An invocation is offered.

While this is a meeting of the Ancient Tecton, we will be using symbolism for the actual S/G universe as often as possible during these proceedings.

In the reality of the S/G world, Faith Day is the anniversary of the end of the wars and the beginning of the unity between Sime and Gen. Klyd Farris ordered all the available food supplies to be turned over to the Gen armies in exchange for selyn that the Simes so badly needed. This event heralded the true beginnings of Sime/Gen trust and cooperation.

Once the world lay in darkness. Humanity was a race divided against itself: Sime against Gen, parent against child. Hatred and fear filled the land. Until one day a tiny spark flickered and blossomed forth into flame.

Kerry: <Lights the Zeor candle.>

Linda:

It was quite by accident that Rimon Farris found the path of peace and unity. From this modest beginning the flame of Zeor grew. Its growth banishing the darkness and giving light and hope to all.

Kerry:

Zeor is the striving for perfection, the dedication to excellence. It is the fueling force of life, which will not let us rest short of becoming the best self we may be. Zeor is the knowledge of the vast gulf between what we are and what we may be, the humbling knowledge of how far we have yet to go and the inspiring knowledge of what it will be like when we get there. Zeor is the focal point of a lens that can burn holes in reality.

Karen: <Lights the Chanel candle from the Zeor candle.>

The light of Chanel is the guiding light to higher wisdom and spirituality. It is the beacon in the night for the lost and weary. She is the daughter house to Zeor.

Linda: <Lights the Takear candle from the Zeor candle.>

Takear's light is that of creativity and freedom. Her creativity is not limited to only artistic pursuits, but also in the creativity of finding answers to problems. The freedom is to choose the path you wish to follow and share your creative forces there. Takear is also the welcommittee house and publisher of FIRST TRANSFER, the Welcommittee's newsletter.

Donell: <Lights Shaeldor's candle from the Zeor candle.>

Shaeldor's light is the Sparkle of the sun on the ocean waves. We build the ships and sail them forth to seek the far horizon. In the not too distant past, we used our ships to smuggle both Simes and Gens safely across the border, now we use them to develop a better future for Sime and Gen together.

Linda:

This is the point in the ceremony where we would normally accept the pledges of the various Houses, but since there are no new pledges to be taken at this time, we will continue with the rest of the ceremony.

Donell:

Faith Day is also a time when we honor those who have provided invaluable services throughout the year. Chanel sponsors these awards, and, since Marge Robbins is here in spirit only, I will be making the presentations.

Linda Whitten- For assuming the leadership of the Welcommittee.

Keir Neustaeder- For taking over the back issue sales of Ambrov Zeor and A Companion in Zeor.

Ruth Sacksteder- For her enthusiasm and hard work in doing the letter column for Ambrov Zeor.

Salomon Lichtenberg- For sharing his wife with Sime/Gen fans and Sime/Gen fandom for all these years.

Kerry:

We also wish to honor Donell Meadows as the Donor of the Year. This award is presented to her for the vast number of illustrations and cartoons she has graciously donated to Sime/Gen zines.

Donell:

Lastly, we have a very special award. For Jacqueline, for her usual terrific talents, encouragement, support and great communications! We'd like you to have our "instant communications and Idea Generation Kit." It consists of several colorful postcards for those spur of the moment thoughts you ofttimes share with us, a couple of pens, and to help you concentrate on writing about the luren, a set of vampire teeth and some artificial blood. <The awards are held up for viewing>

Linda:

It was the custom on Faith Day, for the Simes to give gifts of food to the Gens. In keeping with this custom, The Houses sponsoring the party this year have put together some food baskets.

Since not everyone has a persona, while others have both Sime and Gen personas, we have baskets for everyone- I hope. Let us now in the true spirit of Faith Day, give out these baskets of faith and friendship.

This concludes this years ceremony. We invite you all to stay and enjoy some refreshments with us.

Those members of House Trygon who haven't been through my library, I strongly suggest you send a SASE to Linda Whitten. She will send you an information packet, and a copy of her newsletter, First Transfer. The New York Simes is more of a local newsletter, First Transfer has more information on what the rest of S/G fandom is up to. It is available from Linda for a SASE for each issue.

Those of you who haven't received a listings of zines and where they can be ordered from let me know, and I'll see to it that you are mailed the necessary flyers.

If you have any stories or poetry and you want it to be published in either of the zines Ambrov Zeor or Companion Zeor, send it to Ms. Lichtenberg. The New York Simes is a newsletter, not a fan zine. Which means we take news stories, articles, art, personas, comic strips, advertisements, personals etc. (all real or spoofs). Stories have to be put through Ms. Lichtenberg.

You will have to forgive the lack of Trygon style in this, our first issue, there is just so much news to put out, before darkover that I've run out of room.

Groaner for today:

"A friend in need is a sime indeed."

WHAT TRYGON IS DOING:

Costume Contest:

The Sime/Gen entry in the costume contest is the costume that I am working on for Donald and myself. We will be doing Ferris Channel and companion. Instead of trying to do characters right out of the books we have decided to portray Trygon personas.

I don't know if I can enter them in the recreation category since we aren't doing characters out of the book, but perhaps we can go in for workmanship.

Shiltpron Parlor:

We will doing a Shiltpron parlor from the Sime/Gen books, with a few minor changes.

Our Shiltpron will be Donald's keyboard. He has been working on each song in the Sime/Gen filkbook. He has gotten his keyboard to sound somewhat like what we think a shiltpron should sound. It's hard when you have no examples, or simes to play them for you.

For trin tea we will be using rose hips tea with some spices added. I managed to bribe someone from my office to lend me her large coffee urn for the affair.

The porstan will be replaced by my mead, effervescent, of course. My ginger mead, and lilac mead will be taking the place of porstan.

The mead will be given out in moderation to adult Sime/Gen fans. I will be keeping the bottles out of sight, and serving it myself.

Distect vs Tecton! Trygon votes Tecton!

Holbrook, NY- A referendum was held to determine whether household trygon, should join the Tecton or the Distect. When polling was closed, the returns were:

Tecton: 80%

Distect: 20%

Don Farris ambrov trygon, campaign leader for the tecton party, reported: "the returns show a clear mandate for the Tecton in this region. We of the Tecton are quite pleased with the results of this referendum."

Nova ambrov Trygon, aka "Nova the gen" and campaign leader for the Distect party, responded: "We only lost this referendum by THREE VOTES!" We will be sending out petitions to re-vote this referendum next year! The Distect party will yet have its say in householding and regional politics. Mark my words!!" Nova ambrov Trygon's response to this was partly nageric, and would probably have been unprintable.

The acting Sectuib ambrov Trygon issued a statement saying that household Trygon will be joining the Tecton directly but that any petitions will be given "all due consideration."

A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE TECTON:

DON'T DRINK AND AUGMENT

House TRYGON so far

We've picked our household colors as being navy blue, burgundy and grey. Our virtue is humor. Our motto is "What can be laughed about can be dealt with." (Looks like we can deal with just about anything folks). Our industry is Brewing. We make the best porstan in territory, along with a few other brews the gen likes to cook up. Since business is so good, we have become a rather rich household. Our crest is still <being argued about> under consideration.

The New York simes would like to thank Jacqueline Lichtenberg for her program room schedule, and allowing us to print it. We would also like to extend our thanks to Kerry Lindemann-Schaefer for sending in the Faith Day ceremony script, and allowing us to print it, and Donald Combs, for his on the spot unbiased reporting.

THE NEW YORK SIMES is the unofficial, official newsletter of house Trygon. The articles within express solely the bizarre opinions and warped sense of humors of the authors, (when we can get them to admit to writing this.) and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Ms. Lichtenberg, Kerry, Donell, Linda, or the rest of Sime/Gen fandom. Donald Combs claims to be out of town when this was being written, Nova Serafino has five witnesses which can vouch for her having nothing to do with it.

Subscriptions are $2.00 per year, to cover postage and paper.
