Assignment 5:

Write the outline of a story which tells how the
protagonist and his/her conflict will be presented
in the opening scene, and then event by event how
that conflict drives the story and the plot hand
in hand.

Tentative title: Elysian Fields

  1. The protagonist, a Sime scientist, wants to find a
way to increase selyn production among Gens so that
a Gen can service more than one renSime and without
dying. Because the scientist isn't making good
enough progress in making superior kill Gens (his
original assignment), he loses his financial
    backing.

  2. The scientist feels he is close to a breakthrough in
his research. So he decides to continue his
research by paying Raiders to bring him Gens to
    experiment upon.

  3. The scientist succeeds in making a Gen with
increased selyn production. But the Gen's selyn
production increases to levels intolerable for the
    Gen.

  4. Because the Gen is so high field, he becomes
attractive to the head Raider who has been
supplying Gens to the scientist. The Raider
attacks the Gen. The Gen wants relief from the
pain he has from the increased selyn production, so
he quells his fear to give the selyn to the Sime.
But the transfer just causes another spike in the
Gen's selyn production. The Raider, his system
overloaded with selyn, dies. The scientist hides
    the death.

  5. Because of the Gen's increased selyn levels, his
high field attracts the Sime scientist's son when
he changes over to Sime. The scientist's son is
killed during the transfer and the Gen escapes.
The is the low point, the point at which the
Sime scientist has experienced a profound loss
    because of his experiments.

  6. Because the Gen killed his son, the Sime scientist
sets out to hunt down and kill the Gen.

  7. The escaped mutant Gen kills other renSimes who
try to attack him by lethal transfer. The Gen is
hunted by both the Raiders and the townspeople.
Because the Raiders and the townspeople know that
the Sime scientist is to blame for the mutant Gen,
they go after the scientist too.

  8. The Sime scientist sees the Gen in the woods, a
crackling energy over his head. Shocked by this
development, the scientist hesitates in shooting
him. The Gen vanishes into some bushes and the
    townspeople capture the scientist.

  9. The townspeople put the Sime scientist on trial
for his crimes. They convict and jail him.

  10. Because the mutant Gen wants to get back at the
Sime scientist for his pain, he breaks the
scientist out of jail. The Gen carts the
    scientist deep into the woods.

  11. The Sime scientist suspects the crackling around
the Gen (which is more noticeable than before)
is some sort of growing imbalance of universal
energies. He warns the Gen that his condition
may be causing a rift that could destroy the
whole earth. The Gen tells him he thinks the
crackling is evidence that he is meant to wipe
Simes from the planet, as it has increased some
with every kill he's made. The Sime asks him if
the kills have decreased his pain. The Gen
replies no. The scientist asks, "Isn't that
proof that killing more Simes will only increase
    your problem and your pain?"

  12. The Gen thinks about this and decides that the
Sime is right. But because the scientist is
reponsible for mutating him, the Gen decides
that one more Sime must die. He kills the
scientist. The energy rift crackling increases.

  13. The townspeople and Raiders follow the rift
crackling to the Gen. They kill the Gen.

  14. THE END
