Approaching a Station of the Starred-Cross. AT RISE: AN ANNOUNCER SPEAKS.

Intro music.

ANNOUNCER
Bitter wind howls through the pass as we rejoin Hugh and Klyd, struggling through unmapped territory, pursued.  Pulling their horses up the side of a steep ravine, they pause for breath not knowing that just through the next pass above them they will find shelter.

Sounds of horse-tack jingling, and mittened hands beating together for warmth.

HUGH
Brrrr.  Ice storm coming.  My hands are dead.

KLYD
Snow.  I've lived here all my life.  This is a snowstorm brewing.   Too cold for ice.

Sounds of a horse whinneying, shod hooves slipping on wet rock.

HUGH
Whoa there.  Easy, easy.  Horses don't like this.  I'm cold all the way to the bone now -- too cold to shiver.

KLYD
You don't have to tell me that.  Could be big cats in the area.  That could be what they smell.  We shouldn't go through that next pass up there.
