<Webmaster> Hi Hi Hi

<Robin> Ok - both up & usable now.

<Webmaster> Patric if you want different nicks call MIRC a second time and login again

<Webmaster> Cool..

<Webmaster> Ah there he is.

<Robin> Hi, Jean :)

<Jean> Hi!

<Webmaster> OOOHHH!!!!!!! Hi Jean this is a nice surprise

<Jean> Just checking that all is well.

<Webmaster> So far so good.

<Jean> #htmlclass?

<Webmaster> yeppers

<Jean> Just a sec.

<Marge> There that's better.

<Marge> Well Robin, I wonder if you're my only student today.

<Robin> Could be - I just checked my mail today

<Marge> Who is NoSeeUm? Got any ideas.

<Robin> Not a clue -

<LoggerGuy> Dont know either...

<NoSeeUm> there...hope thats better...

<Paula> Hey, I made it!

<Marge> Carl the idea is to be in both channels. We chew the fat here talk HTML in the other window

<Marge> BRB I think I'm going to clean my monitor so I can see better

<NoSeeUm> ok....hang on....

<Robin> Hi, Paula & Carl. Good to "see" you :)

<NoSeeUm> hiya robin...

<Marge> Ok folks this is going to be real informal.

<Robin> Ready for questions?

<Marge> yes..

<NoSeeUm> <---takes his tie off...

<Marge> the rules

<Marge> 1. all chatter has to stay in this window

<Marge> I guess that's it except for manners.

<Marge> so go ahead Robin.

<Marge> questions in the other window.

<Robin> Sorry - it worked on my 'puter....

<Robin> and it was little.

<Marge> in a browser? That's wierd. Netscape couldn't read your graphic on my system

<Robin> I've no clue - I use MS IE ('cause it came that way & too much trouble to switch)

<Marge> Hi Valorie Welcome

<NoSeeUm> hiya Val...

<Paula> Hi Scribe

<Robin> Next wq

<Marge> Val join #htmlclass

<Marge> you can ask me questions there.

<Marge> social chatter in here. 8-)

<Marge> next question?

<LoggerGuy> Can I ask one, even if I am only the resident logger?

<Marge> sure don't see why not

* Marge moans at the words naming convention

<Robin> By the way, Marge - I *thought* the sound file was small, too. (not even 2min!) Don't do much downloading

<Marge> well small is relative. I have a slow modem. But then so do lots of other surfers.

* Paula has a dazed look, realizing that LoggerGuy and Scribbler are way ahead of her...

<Robin> Not to worry - speaketh she of the many-spaces-in-file-names! ;)

* Marge winks at Robin

<LoggerGuy> Ok.. But I dont have a Graphic User interface so I will have to muddle. :) But I have another question though that should fall within the class..

<Marge> msword 97 does html pages. I use that for complicated tables

<LoggerGuy> What was the question? I missed something.. :)

<Marge> Otherwise you do a lot of math in your head

<Marge> Scribbler can you repeat your question?

<NoSeeUm> Is LoggerGuy the person who actually receives our zip files and posts them?

<LoggerGuy> Naw. I am filling in for him.. :)

<Marge> Actually I[ve been posting your assignments. We've been having staffing problems lately

<Robin> Far be it from HTML to be consistent (on tag ends); Arachnophilia objects (colors change) when a needed endslash is missing.

<Robin> Whoever found Arach. & suggested it to the class - It is a *nice* package.

<LoggerGuy> I should prolly look into arachnowhatever then..

<Marge> that was my idea I love it.

<Scribbler> LoggerGuy, I have a reference book which tells me which tags are paired and which are not. In Arachnophilia, you can also run the beautify/analyze function to find problems.

<Marge> Patric are you going to answer Val's question?

* Paula thinks Arachnophilia is a great little program.

<Marge> It is good.

<LoggerGuy> Where do I answer at? In the other window?

<Marge> yes please

<Scribbler> Patric, you can get Arachnophilia at: http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/index.html

<Robin> <--- can't remember how to get those little purple action lines (again!) & looks pleadingly at Paula

<Paula> Type a forward slash and then me(no spaces in between) and then type whatever action you want.

<LoggerGuy> Thanks Scribbler..

* Robin Big Grin

<Scribbler> Thankee Patric.

<Marge> Next question

<LoggerGuy> welcome.. :)

<NoSeeUm> Marge...i resubmitted my lessons 3 & 4 yesterday. i just want to know if you've had a chance to check mail and see if you received them?

<Marge> Probably I haven't checked my mail since yesterday.

<NoSeeUm> ok...no prob....

* NoSeeUm crosses his fingers that he submitted them RIGHT this time.

<Robin> I could swear Patric said that "default.html" thing was kept track of by your browser. But it doesn't work now.

* Robin bemusedly wondering just how badly she misunderstood the explanation then...

* Scribbler offers Robin cyber-sympathy. It *is* very confusing sometimes.

* LoggerGuy warns tht his typing is hideous!

<Robin> <-- Was told by a friend it's rude not to include a way back without twenty hits on the browser "BACK" button.

<Marge> In this case it doesnt' matter your assignments pop up in a different window.

<Robin> Yes - I'm trying to get the hang of it on "easy" pages.

<LoggerGuy> Smile. I dont think the classes cover etiquette yet, but it would depends solely on how many deep you go.

<Paula> Thanks. I tried it once, but couldn't get it to work. I'll have to go back and try again.

* Scribbler has just learned that text turned into a gif looks hideous! *sigh*

<Scribbler> But if you're Canadian, you have to remember to mis-spell "center". :-)

* Paula can't offer any help there...too advanced for me!

* Marge has an evil grin in her eye.

<Paula> LOL Scribe.

<Marge> Maybe lists should be on your final exam

<Paula> You're on, Marge!

* Robin Horrified - we have to spell 'em *right*??

* LoggerGuy suggests using antialias to render text into an image.

<Marge> Spelling does count on the final exam

<Marge> what's antialias? you can answer in the other channel if you wish might be useful

<Paula> Hmmmm. Haven't tried tables yet. Looks like I'll have to start playing with this a bit more!

<LoggerGuy> Answerin in the other window..

<Marge> I'll make tables part of the last lesson. They're not hard.

<Marge> Do you guys all have arach?

<Paula> Ok, that one confuses me, Marge. I'd have to have an explanation of the commands to understand what it does.

<Paula> yes, I have Arach

<Robin> Yes - I have arach. I'm with Paula, what was the INPUT command for?

<Marge> that tells the browser to look for input from the suer

<Marge> suer=user

<Marge> onClick says look for a mouse click

* Paula laughs.

<Paula> I thought you meant "sewer" Marge! LOL

<Marge> sorry no. Input also draws the box to click on

<LoggerGuy> I get it.. Thats what the form tags are for, so tht the browser will expect a click, right?

<Scribbler> How would you use that? Where would "history.back();return true" direct the user?

<Marge> that tells the browser to return to the last page in it's history file.

<Paula> Can't think of any.

<LoggerGuy> Vallorie, you volunteered to help in the art department, right?

<Scribbler> Yes. And yes I have your e-mails and they're flagged, which means I have to do something about them.

* Paula winks at Scribe, and smiles.

<LoggerGuy> Nono. I didnt mean that ... Imenat that if you needed help with imagery, give a holler and you cna share the info with your class, if oyu want...

* Scribbler notes that Paula could certainly get lot of practice doing tables helping put the M2K site into tables. :-)

<LoggerGuy> HTML is marges forte. I know a bit anbout images..

<Marge> Ok Ok Ok your next lesson will include tables.

* Paula thinks that she opens her big mouth too much..:-)

<Robin> That's all the questions I have (this time)! ;)

* NoSeeUm wants to Thank Marge and all at simegen for the opportunity to learn html

* Robin Tables! shudder....

<Robin> I am looking forward to frames - it's too hard to keep everything on the screen at once.

* Paula dittos NoSeeUm. This is neat stuff!

<Scribbler> I agree. This is lots of fun! Time consuming but lots of fun!

<Marge> Ok then I guess we stand adjourned.

<Marge> HTMLing can be a lot of fun.

<Scribbler> Many, many thanks, Marge!

<Marge> You're very welcome.

<Paula> Thank you!

<LoggerGuy> Thanks Marge!!

<Robin> Thanks, Marge - this is fun.

<Marge> I'll have the next lesson posted sometime tonight or tomorrow morning.

<Scribbler> Sav, could you ICQ for a few moments?

<Paula> Sure.

<Marge> I'm glad you guys are having fun.

<Marge> I am too.

<Paula> :-)

* LoggerGuy notes these logs will be available in a short while, once they are cleaned up.. Marge will let you know where you can access them..

<Scribbler> :-) ... and Marge, I've revising and sending that stuff back in this weekend, now that I think I've got the naming convention.

<Scribbler> bye!

<Marge> ok that's fine.

<Marge> Bye

<Paula> My lesson 3 will be re-sent again this evening, Marge.

<Marge> ok

<NoSeeUm> ok...bye to all my classmates and "professors"...hope to see you all soon...

<Paula> I'll see you sooner, NSU.

<Marge> bye

<Paula> I must go. Thanks again for the help!

<Robin> Bye, folks. Thanks for helping again, Patric.

<Robin> Oh - and welcome back, Marge. It's good to hear from you again.

<LoggerGuy> Sure thing, robin! take care and thanks for coming. See ya next time!

* LoggerGuy closes these windows so he can begin editing..
