Kate Hill tells a story that brings the past and the present together in a
sense. There is a guardian of the past and a guardian to be of the present
that are destined to meet.

Jocelyn is the guardian of the past. He is a vampire that was made in order to
track down and kill another evil vampire that was brought into existence years
ago. Charlie is the guardian to be of the present, she is to be the new
guardian of the last bit of elixir that when put on the end of a stake can kill
the immortal evil the runs the earth as a vampire. As well as the one that
Jocelyn must pass his memory and knowledge of the past centuries to. Charlie
and her parents are not your normal people. They belong to a Coven that
worships the gods and goddesses of nature.

Charlie fights her destiny tooth and nail, she doesn't believe Jocelyn, her
parents or even her own eyes. She is determined she is the wrong one for the
job. That is until the evil known as Edrik attacks not only her, but her
friends and kills one of them.

Many of Charlie's family possess different psychic powers and Charlie is no
exception, hers' is the power to see places and people she's never been to or
met, past and present. For example she paints a picture that touches Jocelyn
in a personal way. After finally accepting her fate Charlie goes away with
Jocelyn to train. While away something that none of them expects happens.
Charlie and Jocelyn fall in love, but what good can come of the love between a
vampire and human? How could that love grow even if it is possible when all
Jocelyn wants is the destruction of Edrik? Why is Jocelyn so bent on killing
Edrik anyway? Is there something more personal to it then just Edrik being
evil? Who was the person in the picture that Charlie painted and why does if
affect Jocelyn so much?

There are many adventures, dangers and problems that Jocelyn and Charlie must
face. Not the least of which is what will become of Jocelyn if and when they
do kill Edrik? What will become of the love that Jocelyn and Charlie share and
will they be able to find any happiness? Or will it end in pain for all?
Worst of all what happens if Edrik wins? This book was very enjoyable.
