This is a follow up book to The Darkness Therin. This is the story of Mara a woman who had to suffer a brutal rape and almost death at the hands of an evil man named Edrik. The attack was so terrible that it scarred her both physically and mentally, and robbed most of her memory of the act itself other than the pain. Ever since the attack Mara has had terrible dreams, ones that she feels are products of her encroaching insanity. Mara takes a trip to Europe in the hopes of escaping her demons and saving what little sanity she has left. Mara has also traveled to Europe in the pursuit of knowledge, knowledge of those they call the undead, vampires, in the hopes of finding what is behind these horrible images she has been dreaming. What Mara finds in Europe is much more then she plans. She meets a man with whom she becomes close to very rapidly. Since the rape Mara has not been able to trust men but there is something different about Adam, he exudes and aura of trust. What Mara does not know is that Adam is one of those she has been seeking knowledge of. He is a vampire an Immaculate at that. Immaculates are vampires born of two hybrid vampire parents. Adam too has demons from his past to overcome. Adam's parents died when he was young and he was given over to a priest to be raised, in order to keep him safe from those who would destroy him. Adam suffered severe mental and sometimes physical cruelty at the hands of this priest. The priest raised Adam to believe his life was an abomination to god. That Adam was on this earth for one purpose only and that is to destroy The First Father. Other then that Adam was pure evil and as such did not deserve to live much less anything else that normal people would have. Such as love, happiness, peace or self worth. The First Father is an evil original vampire that is intent on taking over the world, and placing vampires in power as he feels they were meant. With the first father's power he just may well be able to do it. While the father sleeps all is well but when he wakes he leaves death wherever he goes. According to the prophecy Adam is the one to stop him. The saying goes there will be an Immaculate born that will kill the first father, and Adam fits all the criteria of the prophecy. There are many that would want to see The First Father succeed, but there are more that do not. Should he succeed it would be a terrible thing for human and vampire alike. Maybe it is the fact that they both have demons to fight that make Mara and Adam get along so well. Or maybe it is the fact that Adam feels he should help Mara get over what the other vampire did to her. Whatever it is they seem to become closer all the time. What will happen once Mara finds out what Adam is? Will their relationship continue or will she turn away from him. This is a question Adam is afraid to find the answer too. This is just one of many to follow. Such as who are Adams real parents and why did they let such a terrible man raise him to believe he was evil? Why did no one tell Adam he had a twin? What happens when he meets the first father? Will any survive or will the Father win the order of the world as we know it, end? Anyone that loved The Darkness Therein will love this. It's a great follow up to the first book. |
