This is the first in the new series JennaKay Francis is writing. Jaegar is a vampire/vector and a half breed one at that. He spends most of his life wandering to escape those who would kill him if they knew what he really is. Jaegar decides to stop and rest in a village for a while. Unfortunately Jaegar is not the only vector has come to the village, another named Celd is in the area also. Celd unlike Jaegar has no respect for human life and has not problem killing humans. As a half-breed Jaegar is not as strong as Celd and also doesn't hold as high a position in the Lair as Celd. Celd is one of the chosen and very haughty about it. A chosen is a vector given the seed of the sovereign to implant into a female human since the vector females don't carry the baby's. Why was not really gone into in this book, but may be in one of the future books. Celd is on the path of a bleeder. Bleeders are humans that can regenerate their blood at a faster rate then normal. Celd wants this one to implant his seed in. One night Jaegar comes across a woman that is bleeding and had been abused. He takes her back to his place and tends to her. He is for some reason drawn to her and feels an unusual connection to her. Unfortunately Rhiannon is the bleeder that Celd is looking for, she is a witch also which makes her all the more desirable as a vessel for his seed. Jaegar and Rhiannon have fallen in love and Jaegar isn't about to let Celd have her, so they run. All the while Celd is following behind. Eventually Celd will catch up to them and kill Jaegar and take Rhiannon. That is unless they get some help. This is where I will end my telling of the story. I will say that not only did I like the book it was full of many surprises and intrigue that I haven't revealed in this review. This is definitely a good read. |
