This is another addition to the shapeshifer, witch, vampire series by J.C.
Wilder.
Alexandre Saint-Juste is head of the Council of Elders, as a matter of fact
there aren't many of the council left. Thanks to an uprising of rebels
killing most of them off.
Now as if that isn't enough to deal with Sunni a young vampire whose life
Alexandre saved once has shown up. This is not what Alexandre feels like
dealing with at the moment. Young vampires have started turning up dead in New
Orleans. Alexandre needs to concentrate on that, not some young sexy female
vampire that thinks she is in love with him. For one this certain female is to
flighty for his taste, and two he has no desire to have a relationship anyone
at this time. The last time he had one he got burned and isn't about to let
that happen again. No matter how sexy she may be.
Whatever it is that's killing these vampires isn't natural that's for sure.
They seem to burning up from the inside out. Some have been burned beyond
recognition. There is something evil afoot. Rumor is that Cassandra
Alexandre's ex-lover, ex-council elder and now one of the rebels is back. Word
is that she and Mikhail's revenant are in New Orleans yet Mikhail isn't. Rumor
is Mikhail, head of the rebels was blinded in the put down of his last uprising
against the elders. No one knows anything for sure except that he isn't
around. So if Cass is back what part do she and this revenant play in the
unusual deaths of the other vampires?
Sunni comes up with a plan to make Alexandre realize she is indispensable to
him. Sunni decides to help Alexandre without his knowledge. Only all she
seems to do is end up into trouble and Alexandre has to help her. Though Sunni
succeeds at one thing, she was able to get closer to Alexandre. Whether he
wants to admit it or not he is falling in love with this flighty and not his
type at all female. So how is he going to react when he finds out that not
only is Cassiopeia involved in the deaths but she has plans for Sunni?
Cass has the diary of Elsbeth. The diary has a variety of formulas in it.
One of which is how to create a race of super vampire killing machines. Only
the side effects are that they burn out very quickly. Literally burn out.
Their hearts combust and then burn them up. Now Cass has infected Sunni in
order to try and get Alexandre where she wants him. Alexandre must enlist the
help of friends in order to fight her. But will they succeed or will Sunni die
horribly like the others? Will the Council of Elders be no more? Will Cass
win and have free reign? Or will Alexandre let Sunni die in order to keep
control? What about his feelings for Sunni, will he give in? Will he find a
cure, or is there even a cure available?
I am looking forward to reading many more to this series.
