How can a world without women exist? Well that is except the ones that they steal from other worlds. Rysalia is that world, a world where in years past the men had made terrible mistakes with their scientific research. These same mistakes are what killed the women of their planet. In search of the perfect war weapon the men created a retrovirus that would sterilize the females of the planets they were at war with. Only there was a mishap and the tanks exploded before they made it off the planet, which in turn ended up killing all the women in their own empire instead. This left the Rysalian Prim with no women so they set about stealing women from earth and other planets. These same women are then enslaved, and either given jobs or made physical release vessels for their reapers. Though some of the men and women are allowed to join that is very limited, and reapers are forbidden to join. Kamerone Cree is one of these reapers. Reapers are race of men the scientist created through genetic experiments in order to make better fighters. These fighters/creatures are the top most fighting machines the Rysalian Prime has on their side, they ae very hard to beat, loyal due to programming from time of birth and feared by all others. Kamerone Cree is not only a top ranking reaper, but he is also the most respected and feared. For this reason the resistance has set their eyes on Cree as their salvation. Some of the enslaved women from Earth or Terra as the Rysalians call it, have banded together with women from other planets to try and overcome the men and gain their freedom. Some of these women also belong to another group called The Sisters Of The Multitude that have even more sinister plans for the men. To insure his help the resistance set out to systematically destroy everything Cree holds dear in order to win him over to their side. First they set him up to fall in love with a human female, this same female is part of the resistance. Not only does the resistance program Cree to fall for the human woman, but they program her without her knowledge to fall for him also. There is only one problem with this plan, will it work, or will all this be for nothing? Will things go the way the resistance wants? Or has Cree had everything he cared about destroyed for nothing? If things do work out will Cree be able to reclaim the woman he loves? Even if he does what are the Multitude's plans and will they succeed? In what way do the reapers of Rysalia tie in to the vampire legends of earth? Finding the answers to all these questions will keep you reading it to the end. I personally enjoyed the book immensely. Then again I have not read a book of Charlotte Boyett-Compo's that I did not enjoy. With some of the vampire like qualities the reapers have it would also be a nice addition to a vampire collection also. |
