As with all her books, this is another great addition to the Dark series by Christine Feehan. In this story we revisit the band of now grown, lost Carpathian children. Desari, the singer of the band hires a woman mechanic to keep the vehicles they travel in, in good repair. It so happens that this female has psychic abilities and displays unusual talents with animals. She quickly makes friends with the bands' pet leopards, whom of which are not normally human friendly. When Darius, Desari's brother and the bands' protector and leader shows up something extraordinary happens, Darius is able to see colors. Thus Tempest proves to be Darius' true lifemate. To Tempests' chagrin Darius goes about the process of making her, his from the minute they meet. This is regardless of her feelings or what she does or doesn't want. All Darius knows is that he now feels things where he hadn't been able to feel before and sees colors he hasn't seen in centuries. Being he is so close to changing he knows he can't chance Tempest leaving and thus him turning vampire, and having to be destroyed. Which would leave the band alone without a leader. Tempest is determined to fight Darius all the way. She goes so far as to take off hitchhiking to try and get away from him. She ends up being picked up by a demented man that beats her to the brink of death and is attempting to rape her when Darius saves her. Darius must give Tempest blood in order to save her life. This is just one of the bits of trouble Tempest seems to keep stumbling into. It seems every time she does anything or goes anywhere she finds trouble, or trouble finds her. Each time Tempest finds herself in trouble Darius is always the one to rescue her. Then when he is almost killed she comes to a realization she has been denying all along. She finds that when Darius is on the brink of death that she actually does have feelings for him. They could be possibly even be called love, though she wouldn't go so far as to say so. This whole situation makes for a bit dilemma for Tempest and Darius. How will Tempest deal with her feelings? How can someone that is so used to being alone and handling things herself deal with an overbearing bossy Carpathian male? As for Darius how can he make Tempest his, care and protect her yet still give he the freedom she needs? What kind of relationship will they have? Will it be one of dominance or one of mutual caring and love? How are they to balance one with the other? Will they find happiness at the end of their tribulations? Or will the end of them just be the beginning of new ones? I found that like all the other books of the Dark series I enjoyed this very much. Since I bought my book at Walden's books I also received a special edition booklet, with an interview with Christine Feehan and the first few chapters of Dark Legend the next in the series. This just wet my appetite for even more Carpathian tales. |
