I thought when I read Dark Magic I had found my favorite Carpathian. Now that I have read this book I think I have found a new favorite. Although I love Gregori, Julian is also quickly becoming my favorite. Julian Savage is one of a set of twin Carpathian brother's that has lived a very long time without his soul mate. Although his twin Adrian has found his mate Julian has yet to find his. Julian being a vampire hunter knows he is close to becoming like those that he hunts. Gregori a long time friend and fellow vampire hunter has asked Julian to do a job for him to help buy time. Gregori too has seen the signs that Julian's time to turn vampire is coming up soon. Gregori was on the verge of turning himself when he met his lifemate. All those that know Julian know that if he turns there will be a lot of pain and destruction in for human's and Carpathians alike as there may not be anyone that is Julian's match and able to hunt him and kill him. Gregori has asked Julian to warn a singer that she is on the hit list of a group of human vampire hunters, whom are fanatical about their beliefs. When Julian goes to warn this woman things are not what he expects. Not only is she Carpathian, but when Julian is in her presence he is able to see colors. Which means that she is his soulmate, but how to convince her of that. She has no idea of whom she is or what she really is, other then that she has powers normal humans do not. It seems that Desari and her band are all Carpathians, they were children, now grown that were long thought dead. The rumored lost ones, children that had managed to escape during a massive slaughter of their people by humans. These children were rumored to have escaped but no it was thought to be only that a rumor. Since Desari won't leave her brothers and sisters Julian travels with her. During this traveling to the concerts there are many things they must contend with. First of all there are the vampire hunters after them. Second Desari is as strong as Julian and doesn't believe in soulmates. Third Desari refuses to quit touring and singing regardless of the danger, Fourth Julian must contend with Darius the one that has kept the group together and alive for so long. With all these things to contend with not to mention the fact that how is a full blooded Carpathian male at full power supposed to contend with a fullblooded Carpathian independent female that is his lifemate and also his match in every way? How can he protect her when she won't let him? The answers are definitely not disappointing. I was very happy to see an independent female Carpathian who was not about to be dominated and that could stand on her own. As with a couple of my favorite authors, I have never read a book to date of Christine Feehan's that I didn't like. |
