This is a truly inspirational read. This is probably only my third inspirational book I have reviewed. Our story is mainly about Mahogany and her mother's struggles to bring her to the grace of God. This story also the pain and heartaches her best friend Jennifer had to go through as well. >From a young age Mahogany fights her mother's efforts to bring her to God. Mahogany wants to have fun, not sit in church. During her growing up years Mahogany puts herself and her mother through a lot. They argue at times, though they both do love each other. Mahogany's best friend Jennifer doesn't have such a caring mother. She learns how to take care of herself quickly. Unfortunately she learns about boys just as quickly. One day when going to baby-sit she is raped and subsequently becomes pregnant. When Jennifer miscarriages the only person she trusts if Mahogany. For days Jennifer carries the body of her baby around, and eventually is convinced to leave it in her locker. When she ends up in the hospital the babies body is found. Some time after that Mahogany has her own run in with a boy that she thinks she is in love with. That is until she finds out he isn't who she thinks he is. During this time Mahogany end up inadvertently running away from home. Eventually she returns home. After this incident the girls lose track of each other for a few years. Though all grown up Mahogany still didn't trust anyone after her first bad encounter. Mahogany had had several bad experiences and finances forced her to move back home. This was not something Mahogany wanted as her mother was still preaching for her to try God. After years of not seeing each other Mahogany and Jennifer meet up again. Not in the best of circumstances either, a nurse calls because Jennifer is in the hospital, she had been beaten to the brink of death by her husband. From this time on Mahogany and Jennifer's life become entwined. The whole while Mahogany's mother tries to bring Mahogany to god. While she succeeds with Jennifer she still fails with Mahogany. >From this period on the trials and tribulations Mahogany goes through continue. Her mother's fight for her soul also continues. Will Mahogany wait until it's to late before she realizes her mother was right? Will she ever come to god? Will she ever find happiness and if so will her mother be around to see it? What about Jennifer will her life get any better then before? What will the future hold for her and Mahogany's friendship? Many of these questions are answered in this story. It's and inspirational many will find well worth the read. |
