There are witches and vampires in the little town of Brinham, England. When Dixie LePage comes to look over and settle her inheritance she gets much more than she expects. She isn't wanted there to begin with or at least that is the impression she gets from the attorney handling her property inheritance. Dixie was left a house by her aunts, aunts that she had never met and whom of which her mother always called witches. Dixie had no idea it was in the literal sense, but that comes later in the story. When Dixie arrives in England after coming all the way from America she is left to fend for herself. No one is there to meet her, obviously things aren't off to a good start. Then Dixie finds out she must stay in a bed and breakfast since her house is uninhabitable. It seems Sebastian Caughleigh, the lawyer handling Dixie's property, isn't very enthusiastic that she has come to England, and he seems even less enthusiastic that she has decided to stay and fix up her house. He seems to have an agenda of his own he is following, otherwise why is he so determined that Dixie sell the house? Dixie seems to find a friend in one of her neighbors, Kit/Christopher Marlowe. Marlowe is interested in purchasing some books that were left to Dixie by her aunts. Christopher and Sebastian don't seem to like each other though they both seem to be taking a large interest in Dixie and in her house. What is so good about a broken down, in need of repair, old house that both men are interested in it's contents? What is it about Kit Marlowe that is very attractive to Dixie. Yet Sebastian and his nephew James Chawick both have the total opposite effect on her. Strange things start happening in the village of Bringham. For example Dixie comes home finds Marlowe on her property and someone in her house. Another is that the villagers think that Dixie's aunts haunt the house and that they were witches, but that is crazy. Isn't it? That's not even the least of what begins to happen, murder, vampires, witches and lots of action. All of these things involve some of the village tenants, Christopher Marlowe, Sebastian Caughleigh, his nephew James Chadwick amongst a few others. No one is quite who or what they seem. This book as a bit of everything for everyone. I must say those who don't read e-books don't know what they are missing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not only was it a mystery but a vampire mystery at that. Vampire lovers have been blessed recently with some very good authors not the least of whom is Rosemary Laurey. |
