This is another book in the Vampire Chronicles. This is Marius' story narrated by himself to Thorne a creation of Maharet. Thorne wakes up from a long self-imposed sleep. As he wakes dreams of revenge on Maharet are in his mind. He manages to make his way to Marius' house. There Marius greets him invites him to stay, then begins to tell him the story of his life. Marius tells his story from the time of his making, through the centuries to the present time. He tells of how he was forced into becoming a vampire and his escape. He tells of his caring for the queen and king of the vampires to his making of Pandora. He tells of his surprise and envy when the queen allowed Lestat to drink from her. Marius recants all his travels after his leaving of Pandora. Of his companions and much, much more. For some time I had hoped to see a book about Marius. Though I was looking forward to reading it this took me quite some time to finish. I found some parts interesting mostly the last chapter. I also found a lot of it time consuming and hard to keep up with. Though I am only telling one reader's opinion I will say I found this nowhere near the quality of Ms. Rices' first three books. Though many will find it very interesting I would say do not buy it in hardcover save your money for when it comes out in paperback. |
