| This short novel is sold as a historical romance. It takes place during the English Regency, but I would not classify it as a Regency romance in that the characters perform too many scandalous behaviours. Compare Wuthering Heights to Jane Eyre; that will give you an idea of how this story compares to the standard Regency romance. That aside, the story is enjoyable as a light-hearted romance.
The title character is a reckless noble who is far from marriage-minded. Into his lap falls a waif of sorts, a young lady fallen on hard times because of the death of her parents. Her brother is even more reckless than Dominic and tries to abuse his sister in various ways, causing her to run away. This is how she first meets Dominic. Sophie is also somewhat of a tomboy.
The usual predictable romantic plot ensues, though with some strange twists. The book provides satisfactory material for vacation reading. | | |
