| Mattie did not have an idyllic childhood. Rejected by her birth parents and raped repeatedly by her stepbrother, K, she was forced into a life of con jobs and violence.
Brant West saw his best friend kidnapped as a child. But no one believed him. Now, Mattie has shown up claiming to be Elaine, his childhood friend. Despite being attracted to her almost against his will, he fights the attraction. After all, he and her sister, Emeline, are in love. Aren’t they?
What follows is a violent mixture made more explosive by the inclusion of a maternal dying grandmother, a vicious sister and father and a sadistic, murderous stepbrother. Add to this formula Mattie’s need to protect her secret and keep her loved ones safe and the result is A Year of You. The plot is definitely not predictable. Characterization is definitely Adra Steia’s stronghold. You will find yourself cheering on our heroine while actually booing our male protagonist, Brant West.
This is not your typical light-hearted romance. Nor is it a book for young, impressionable readers. There is graphic violence and adult language that help to make this novel a journey that mature adults won’t want to miss. Once you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down. It will definitely not take a "Year" to finish! | | |
