| The time was 1860. Angelica, due to the sultry heat, was incapable of slumber; so she wandered out onto the upper story verandah, sat in a rocking chair, and crossed her legs up on the banister. Unexpectedly fingers touched her leg, alarming her. A dark-haired, good looking man talked to her. Angelica wanted to know who this handsome man was, but he told her he was a houseguest. Shortly afterward he offered her a drink. She jumped up and seized her dressing gown; but in the process she left part of it behind as she ran to her chamber, still hearing his laughter.
The next morning when Angelica inquired about the handsome stranger, Elaine didn't know whom she was talking about. Or did she? Is Elaine behind some plot maybe, but what kind? As the plot develops, the tension mounts. Soon Angelica finds out who the handsome stranger is; however with each chapter the mystery unfolds even more.
What class of mysterious goings on is St. Alban finding difficult not to relay? With buccaneering in progress, could he be the pirate that is causing all the trouble? And why has Angelica become entangled with him? Is he only testing her?
Unexpectedly an incident occurs at the docks. David is injured. Was it critical? Will things turn for the better? Or will Bonnie be left a widow? Angelica's quick interest in St. Alban suddenly turns to malice when she finds out that David has been wounded. Will Angelica forgive St. Alban? Or will she keep blaming him for David's injures?
Before long David's good companion, Richard, arrives on the scene. Will all the things that happened put an end to St. Alban and Angelica's friendship once Allison walks into the plan? For what reason? What is in it for her? Does she have a plan of her own?
Suddenly another accident occurs. Angelica is hurt. The doctor is called in. Will she be all right? Who would want her out of the way? Was the misfortune intended for St. Alban? What happens when a person with a good reputation concocts such a pernicious plan?
Very good suspense! Marie Carroll, a phenomenal writer, has interlaced The Not-So-Victorian Viscount with romance that stirs the heart with deep emotions. Once the reader sees that St. Alban and Angelica find true love, suddenly conflict is activated. Soon afterward both almost sacrifice each other by way of deception. That leads to on to edge-of-the-seat excitement. More accidents occur. Who is trying to keep the two apart? And why? | | |
