| Warlord is a time travel story in which two present-day young women find themselves back in the year 1052 AD in the Scottish Highlands on the Isle of Skye. They leave a pub one very foggy evening and, not able to see their way, find themselves behind a wall originally of stone, but suddenly earth and twigs. In an effort to get back beyond the wall, they are instead kidnapped by well-muscled warrior-type men from an ancient time. They try to resist to no avail and are carted off to a village of thatch huts.
To their amazement, they realize they have truly been transported back in time, knowing thatch huts had disappeared from the highlands many hundreds of years ago. The Lord of the Isles, who is like a king, takes Janet, the American, as a bride, since he must produce an heir. Her friend, Morag, the Scots girl, is taken as bride by the lord's brother. Through all the trials and tribulations, Janet and Morag find themselves deeply in love with the brothers. The lord and Janet are so well-suited sexually that they pant for one another. It is difficult for either of them not to touch and have each other, and the descriptive scenes are quite erotic and lusty. In due time, Janet's warrior-husband and lord of all the land, confesses he loves her. When she has his heir, a son, all is well that ends well, for Janet has no desire to leave him or this isle. She chooses to stay in this time frame, rather than return to the mundane life she had lived in the States. Jaid Black is a writer who can convey her thoughts and transport them to the computer screen/paper. She holds the attention of the reader until the end of the novella. Although there were no surprises...any writer can easily follow the story and know what lies ahead...I found it to be a page turner, never boring.
