Middlegate is a town within a town that no one knows about except for the inhabitants. Strange occurrences happen in Middlegate that leave little Wiliam (only 1 “L”) Wychwood confused but curious. Journey with Wil and his cousin Sophie as they try to unravel a mystery that is several hundred years old and find out how a legacy left to Wil by his grandmother stirs things up.
Rae Bridgman has created a wonderful yarn that is reminiscent of the Harry Potter series in that witchcraft, sorcery, and unusual magical games are the backdrop; but there the comparison ends. The Serpent’s Spell is in a class of its own. It has great likeable characters and a wonderful ending that gracefully lead to the next story (which one hopes will be coming soon!). You’ll sit turning the pages ever more quickly to get through this great read to find out what happens in each succinct chapter.
Kids and adults alike will be able to enjoy this story and will be able to have a rousing discussion about it afterwards.
Pick up The Serpent’s Spell; you’ll be glad you did!
