| This is a fun fantasy, somewhat similar to the Harry Potter books or the Narnia series. Although this is the second book in a trilogy, it can be enjoyed by itself. Any knowledge necessary from the previous book is explained.
As the book begins, Peter is staying with his uncle during school holidays and has been having a nightmare about his aunt. It's explained that she is recuperating from a breakdonw, which she suffered as a consequence of the adventures in the first book. Peter and his family live in modern day New Zealand, but they have fantasy adventures that sometimes take them to medieval Britain. Uncle Paul is an incarnation of Merlin. Peter and Merlin together fight against some very powerful evil people, such as Morgause and Sujad Cariotis. In their adventures, they are aided by the Book of Obsidian and the powers of Earthlight.
The Lord of Obsidian is a fun, entertaining book that can be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys an imaginative tale. | | |
