Price: $15.95 | This is an anthology written by a group of writers living in the Monterey Peninsula in California, located a short distance south of San Francisco. The writers come from a variety of backgrounds. Some were born and grew up in the area. Others moved there from other places. Some led careers in other fields before turning to writing.
The book contains twenty stories from a variety of genres. There is fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, suspense, mainstream, and even a fable. The historical fiction includes stories about a lighthouse ("Charlotte's Light", "Lavinia", and "Theo") and interesting historical characters ("The Monkey House Inn" and "A Break in the Trail"). They are best at giving the reader a local flavour. Regardless of genre, all the stories take place, at least partly, in the Monterey Peninsula.
I can't really pick a favourite. They are each so different from one another. Each piece had something going for it. According to the biographies in the back, some of the authors will be coming out with novels very soon. They will be worth looking for, as the writing quality in this anthology is generally quite high. | | |
