She stands by the bed, aware of the fact that she is losing her grandmother, but inheriting this small figurine that her own mother had avoided. Although Cassy shares her mother's fear of the Talisman, she is unable to refuse her beloved grandmother's last wish. The Talisman had originally belonged to her great-grandmother, Marie Savoy, a Creole woman; and this charm was given to her by her Cajun lover; for in those times their love had been forbidden. It was for that reason that these charms were exchanged in remembrance of undying love.
When Cassy is alone in her room, it's then that she dares to open her hand. The Talisman is approximately one and a half inches high and an inch wide, depicting a nude couple. It's a small gold carving that clearly reveals the contours of the nude couple. The woman faces away from the man, revealing the outline of her body. The man's muscular body stand behind her, locked in an embrace; and they are mating!
Later that night Cassy lies awake for hours, holding the couple in her hands, watching them mate endlessly. When she finally falls asleep, it is to dream of a faceless man.
Ten years have now passed, and Cassy has kept the "Talisman" in a small jewelry box. Occasionally she has been tempted to take it out and watch the couple, but has resisted the urge.
When she meets Chandler Raven, president of Raven Electronics and also her new boss, there is an immediate attraction between the two of them; but is it a real attraction, or the pull of the "Talisman?"
The Talisman is another for my keeper shelf and a winner for Ms Lee! Her characters are multidimensional, emotional, and excellently portrayed. Strong secondary characters as well, of which I am sure some will lead into another story! Looking forward to reading more from this talented writer. Count down to "Serge." This book is rated NC-17 for strong sexual content. Highly recommended. | | |
