| This story falls into the category of urban fantasy or magical realism. Through this vehicle, the author tries to teach young people that we have a lot of power over the things that happen around us. Maybe one person can't influence reality, but groups of us can be very powerful.
The protagonist is a young boy. His parents have split up, and he and his mother and sister have moved into the centre of Syracuse, New York. Tony misses suburban life. Seventh Street, where they now live, seems a very unfriendly and even dangerous place. Little by little, though, he manages to find one, then another, friend. Slowly he realizes that he and his friends can influence the direction of life on Seventh Street.
There is excitement and suspense in this short novel, and even adult readers can enjoy it. The author succeeds in bringing the characters to life, allowing readers to identify with many of them. The events in the story will correspond to many incidents in readers' lives. | | |
