A very suspenseful story that is filled with in-depth feelings of hostility of friends and neighbors and hospitality of strangers -- people that were willing to help by putting their own lives in danger. These Things Don't Happen takes the reader beyond telling and showing right into you are there with the character.

KC's fear is shown through her thinking and conversation. She had a photographic memory. That, in turn, helped her when she needed to know or to find her way around town, but would it help to get her away from the kidnappers? Just when she got herself out of one situation, she was right back into another one. She stared fear in the face. When she was offered help, she didn't know whom to trust. Her neighbors? The priest?

The author, Tina Carter, moved me to tears with the ordeals that KC had to go through. I stayed on the edge of my seat and turned each page with anticipation of what was going to happen next. To me, KC kept her composure and took the time to think things through before she acted on each situation, thus showing her knowledgeable attributes. She didn't let fear stop her. But would her actions be enough to get her a way or means of escape?
Read These Things Don't Happen and find out for yourself if she will be strong enough to endure the prolonged stress.
