| After the children's grandmother had died and stipulated in the will that the shares for the McGrath and LaPlante company were to be controlled by Marilyn, who has three children in line for the legacy, especially after her husband died, she is given the opportunity to sit on the board that had been owned by the McGrath and LaPlante families since the late nineteenth century.
Marilyn had thought that the children's grandmother did not like her. Had she and if so, why was she being pushed into this position? Did the old woman think that she would fall flat on her face? When Marilyn was told that should she turn down the offer of sitting on the board, her children would not inherit any of the family shares, she was given no option. She would either have to turn down the position completely and lose the shares for her children or manage it until the children came of age to receive their proper shares. Either way, Marilyn would get nothing for herself, only the satisfaction of fighting the old woman from the grave and beating the will for her children's sakes.
Marilyn's brother-in-law Michael, after being away for many years, suddenly steps into the picture. Why would he suddenly show up now? Does he want to help her to achieve the inheritance for her children, or is he there to help line his own pockets, thus getting his, plus the children's, shares?
The author, Jean Jardine Miller, has taken Fate and Angus McGrath and molded it into a uniquely different book that is also refreshing. It not only lets the reader delve deeply into what the characters are thinking, but also shows the evil or good-will in those same characters and has brought them out into the light to make the story more able to be appreciated. | | |
