Fans of the Oz books can be happy that new adventures are being written. I first read L. Frank Baum's Oz books when I was in elementary school. I believe I borrowed them from the public library. I recall reading some non-Baum Oz books as well, probably by Ruth Plumly Thompson. I recall not liking them quite as well. When I had the chance to buy reprints of the Oz books as an adult, I only bought the Baum ones.
This recent venture by Edward Einhorn I find to be as satisfying as the original Oz books. In this book, a sorceress and her son move to Oz from a parallel universe in which the Wizard is evil. They live in an enchanted living house with living furniture. They get into trouble because of a law that prohibits regular citizens of Oz from practising magic.
Follow their adventures as they are tried for this crime and also have other adventures along the way.
I recommend this book for all Oz fans as well as the intended preteen audience.
