Lieutenant-Colonel Douglas Mark White, a fighter squadron leader stationed on Vancouver Island, is on a routine mission when he is abruptly ordered to return to base. An Arcturus marine patrol plane has crashed. A member of the crew, Warrant Officer Vera, survived the crash. When he regains consciousness, he states in no uncertain terms that an American fighter plane shot them down. He is quite positive that the insignia and markings of the hostile aircraft are that of the United States Air Force.

In spite of apparent stonewalling on the part of his commanding officer, Douglas is determined to get to the bottom of this. He steps up air patrols and soon uncovers evidence of massive air activity in Canadian airspace. The planes all carry markings of the American Air Force.

As the story advances, we learn that a vast smuggling operation is in place led by Sam Concord, formerly a pilot under Doug's commander. There is a tremendous amount of animosity between the two men. Doug must find a way to put an end to the smuggling in spite of poor resources, lack of support from his superiors, and some personal problems. The story spirals to an exciting conclusion with an air battle between Douglas and Sam.

Vulture in the Sky is a fast-paced action adventure that will appeal to almost anyone who enjoys reading about pilots and planes or loves the military as I do.
